Which made me wonder what other owners are worth (the title of this post was almost "why is Tilman Fertitta such a cheap bastard while Joe Lacob spends money like he thinks the shit's gonna rot?").

I want to write my own fiction stories one day; I have had a book or two swimming around in my head so I will put the computer to good use and get that typed out one of these days. In this instance I chose my 5 stories and even though one is a marketing inquiry I had fun writing it, so here are my things and some background some of them.
Resume: It is a basic one because my photo ones were not particularly good, and this is an honest resume besides the ones I made for class and I did fudge on those.
Cover letter: I made up the cover letter though there is a penguin Books but it is always fun to use your imagination!
Hike with Drew: I got the concept from a Writer’s Digest and entered it into a contes I never got a response but good practice.
Short Story Vegas: Was one I did for another class but in here I changed it and the story was much better the second time.
Marketing Flyer: This was fun to do those are stock photos of the dogs and squeaky toys, but I like Pit Bulls and dog toys are fun as well.
Scott part 1-This is a story I am working on with another writer, warning its very sexy and some naughty words are in there as well.

It had been a long cold winter Drew and I could not get out for a morning hike till today. Being 75 degrees, we did not have to wear many layers. He is an extremely sweet inquisitive boy who always asks a lot of questions. Why does moss grow on the north side of trees” he asks? Its times like this when it would be nice to have my husband here, but he is overseas where the work is. “well, it’s not just the north side it’s on the shadier side because that is where the moisture is.”
On we went looking at snails on the ground watching the deer pass by along a ridge. Being quiet as to not startle them. “Mom he whispered it’s a bunny den they are coming out for food, he leaves a few carrot and lettuce scraps from last night’s dinner. I walked down the path and spotted some glorious Blue Jays and a Downey Woodpecker. “Listen Drew the woodpecker is getting the bugs out of the trees.” My sweet Drew was staring at the Bunnies, they are cute and fluffy after all. We followed our path down further after the bunnies went back to the den.
The skies were getting cloudy, so I hoped the rain was not going to come back. Though the weather report said there was a chance. My little explorer with his school uniform on was undeterred, I wish I could wear shorts on a 75 day and not be cold, it is always nice to be young. Walking along our path we spot some squirrels running in circles around the tree. “Why do the chase each other like that” Drew asks. “Maybe it’s a game for them like ring around the Rosie.”
On we trek to our favorite stream where the deer family are taking their drinks. I tell Drew we cannot skip stones right now we do not want to scare them. We look through the grass for more of his favorite bugs, saw some worms just below the dirt by a tree. Looking up we see a big spider web being made between two branches. The crows were making their calls in the distance. We are finally able to skip our stones in the stream. He gets some great skips going, and we collect some new rocks for our little garden back home.
Walking past the stream we climb up the embankment and up along the ridge where we see a Fox off in the distance. He or she walks the opposite direction we are going so it is a relief we can continue to the clearing. Where there are more bugs, rocks, and Bunnies. We pass the Deer family as they run up the hill to were, they mostly frolic or maybe they live up there. We stop for a snack of Apples, Almonds, and some cheese sticks. When we were finished Drew put a couple of slices in his pocket to feed the Bunnies, I am sure.
“Mommy we’re getting to the clearing now we can see the Bunnies and the last time Daddy, and I were here I got some neat rocks too.” Drew told ne enthusiastically, I did love his passion for nature, though again my husband is much better at the nature stuff. I am a pastry Chef ask me about desserts and I am your woman, about why moss grows on trees and hello Google. Since Dad is unavailable, I step in and let him explore and see the world outside of the house and off the screen.
It is just another half mile and it is on to the clearing. He starts to pull me hand a little harder I know he is excited. We pass under the tree I glance up and see the Fox again. Then we stop and see “Daddy home……

One Week In Las Vegas
The countdown started Friday at 2pm I got the week off from this thing I call a job (just over broke). The car was packed, it was time to hit the road. The traffic was average and climbing the Cajon Pass was not that bad. I stopped in Baker to have my favorite meal at Bob’s Big Boy, the chili spaghetti, no onions. After making my way back on the highway the traffic picked up going out of Baker, through to Primm and Stateline. I had to stop for gas at Whiskey Pete’s, so I also went in and got some snack goodies. My favorite trail mix and some cheese potato chips because vending machines are too expensive. The road was beckoning so off I went, traveling through Jean is always nice, not much to see. A prison, a few remaining casinos, some outbuildings, and a truck stop. There slogan was always fun 40 smiles closer than Vegas. You can get bored so be sure to pack some music you can have your own car concert. “I’ll face it with a grin I’m never giving in, on with the show” (Show Must Go on by Queen)
Finally, the Vegas skyline is in sight, the lights are not on yet, but they will be needing to navigate around the strip. I do say a few words the terrible drivers. This vacation was so needed my job is crazy, my kids are older now and do not need mom around anymore. Off they went to grandma’s house and I booked the week at the Delano, it is attached to the Mandalay bay so perfect access to all the fun of the strip, and just enough luxury to not look cheap. Getting the valet to take the car I check into my genuinely nice room I have a great view of the Luxor light (that comes off the top of the hotel) and the Excalibur. Now off to indulge in that genuinely nice bathtub and get some overdue reading done. My bathroom with a view has the Luxor light and that is the brightest light on the Vegas strip it comes right out of the top of the Pyramid shaped hotel. A brightness of 42.3 billion candela, you could read a paper from 10 miles straight up if you wanted to.
Once I was well soaked and finished with my chapters it was time to find something to eat besides my snack foods. After cruising the room service options, I settled on some Mexican food of chorizo and eggs with nice corn tortillas. That hit the spot so with the extra energy it was time to get out for a stroll of the property. The indoor pool is nice but small and I want to soak up the sunshine and get some exercise so I shall hit the outdoor pool tomorrow. Back in the lobby I grab those ads for things to do in the city so I can plan out the rest of my trip. There are thousands of things to do in Vegas. Do not be disappointed if you do not get everything done, that is what the next trip is for. I have a beautiful week and I want to have a good time and not have to wait for anybody, I can do what I want. I got those and cruised up through the lobby and toward the casino on my way there I saw a sign for a food and wine festival. With that guy Zac from the travel channel. Thinking hmm I did not know he was interested in food or wine. I went down and found my favorite penny slot game Lucky cat. After 15 minutes I came out putting 20 in and winning 500, so I called it a night and went to the bar to catch a hockey game and grab a fun fruity drink (I like tequila sunrise, (Tequila, grenadine, and cranberry juice). As I am rooting for the Golden Knights (local Vegas hockey team) I looked over to my left and there was Zac from the travel channel, and he likes hockey too this is awesome, and I am trying not to be a fan girl.
The game was in intermission and the Knights were winning so it was time for a new fruity drink so this time I turned around to get back to the bar and bumped right into Zac, boy was my face red. After some apologies and an offer to buy my next fruity drink (a Strawberry Daiquiri) it was a yes and I spilled that I was a fan. He told me he does have an interest in food and wine not just chasing ghosts with his crew. We had some great conversation and when the game came back on, we both sat in the booth cheering the golden knights to their victory. Now I am buzzed and standing up was going to be fun, but Zac was a true gentleman and helped me to my feet. He offered to buy me dinner. The Taco Hut was a good place the tortillas were fresh, and the company was so cool. The conversation turned to food, wine, travel, and some stuff about me. The midnight hour rolled around, and Zac had an early morning, so we said goodnight, but he was staying one floor above me, so we agreed to go to the diner in the lobby for breakfast or brunch. At 10am I was enjoying my company and this great stick to your ribs breakfast (scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and some great watermelon) The food offerings in Vegas are so varied you can get everything from a hot dog and beer for 1.99 at the Orleans, to a 5-star meal at Caesar’s Palace the buffets are great too. Although sometimes you want a nice sit-down dinner.
The conversation was effortless the attraction was deep. We made plans to see each other again after the food contest he was judging was over. Saying goodbye was a bit hard but the hand holding was sweet and made me feel like a schoolgirl again. After saying goodbye and I did watch him walk into the convention hall I went back to my room to plan out the rest of my day. I chose a tour of the Mob Museum, they say that Vegas was built with Mob money, but it was a Mormon founded town that later Hollywood discovered. Then many people in Hollywood who were well connected (such as East Coast mobsters) financed Bugsy Segal to build the Flamingo Hotel. As I was putting my shoes on, I got a knock on the room door and as I opened it, I got some flowers (pink roses) and an all-access pass to the food and wine festival courtesy of Zac. Let us just say the Mob Museum can wait for later I got to go to a food and wine festival and spend the rest of the week with Zac. “hi Zac thanks for the flowers it was sweet of you to remember.” He said, “It’s always right to remember a ladies flower preference because that’s the right thing to do.” Smiling the rest of the day I meet other travel channel celebrities and got to taste some great foods and many different wines. The food and wine offerings at the hotels and restaurants are varied, the Las Vegas area have become very international, so the varieties are endless.
The week went by in a blur of food, wine, conversation, and some sweet dates. I never thought I would get over the break-up that happened the week before. Getting a private Vegas tour was something completely special. I did get to see the Mob Museum, Mandalay Bay Fine Art Museum, seven magic mountains, Pinball Hall of fame and a private dinner at the food and wine festival. My days in Vegas were down to one. We had reservations at Rivera right here at the Delano the view is amazing, the food is impressive with Italian and French offers. “I have had a wonderful time this week Zac thank you for mending my broken heart.” He looked at me for a minute and said, “it’s been a pleasure to get to know you and I would not mind visiting your hometown, you always have a reason to come back to Las Vegas. The next food and wine festival is around Christmas, this one will include chocolate.” Hitting the 15 early the next morning I have visions of Christmas, a pass to the food and wine festival, also a brand-new relationship to take back home with me.
The End
When writing a short story, you want to keep it from rambling and have enough details to keep it fresh. When your reader gets into the story you want them to feel like they are there with you, going to the food and wine festival, on that hike through the seven-mountains or touring the mob museum. The details are the thing to see and make sure to watch out for punctuation and common language. An average short story is within 6,00 words or 24 pages. If you wanted too you could go short-short story and that is between 500 and 2,00 words. That comes out to be 6 pages (Minot, Steven Ch. 7 pg. 41), talk about short stories. The story is all your length and style matter as much as how you want it to come into focus.

Scott’s Story Part 1
I am Scott Thorn, and I am going back to WDU for the first time in 15 years, I went here for a year but after I came out as gay there really were no gay dudes. I am all men but yeah lesbians were all around some BI guys but no real gay dudes. I went back to the mainland and attended Preston University I majored in administration and minored in Literature. I did at one point in my life have a girlfriend and wanted to marry her, but I could not quash the gay lifestyle. That part of my life is over and now the old school offered me a counseling job, have not done this in a while. I get to help students toward there after college career.
I sit here on this boat and keeping an eye on my 75 Triumph I have some nerves, but it is mostly about seeing this place again, so as the boat pulls up, I get my bike going and make a stop at my new on campus apartment. Its west facing because I like sunsets more than sunrise, so I did not know it needed so much work. I have some handy skills but a little at a time. The kitchen is decent and so is the bathroom. The floors will need some polish and the deck needs to be stained, this is a duplex, so I hope the neighbors are quiet. It is furnished and done nicely so I cannot complain too much, but back on the bike to see the Dean.
I get my bike set with the kill switch and walk up the way to the Admin building, I am pretty much the only one dressed. I am wearing my good black jeans and my dress shirt, in my favorite color Maroon. I do remember this place was obsessed with sex so I will stick out wearing clothes, as I enter the building at least more admin people are dressed. Miss Grant the secretary shows me to my new office, its spacious much bigger that my last one at Preston where I shared a cubicle with another person. I have files from past students and current ones, so I started filing them when Dean Kane walks in, booty shorts and a tank top. “Welcome back to WDU Scott, we look forward to seeing you succeed you come very recommended.” I could hardly concentrate because this Dean was hung but I persevered and said, “Thank you sir I look forward to helping young students find there after WDU careers.”
After he left, I had to get my rise to settle then I continued filing and looking through some files. Clarissa Love that was a name that got around even all the way to Preston. I think she does the Jax in the bedroom or something like that. I started looking around and thought I need some life in this office so I asked Miss Grant about decorating and she said I could do what I wanted but no painting, so I went to town and checked out a flea market. I found some pictures of the beaches of Canada, some old homes in the area and a few movie posters from Rocky horror Picture Show (it is my favorite). The flea market said they will deliver to the school tomorrow so I told them I will be there at 9am.
Now with my day done I get to the store to buy some groceries and realize this place uses sextons and I was down to my last few, so now I will need to exchange but thankfully a bank is nearby so I can get some of my mainland money exchanged. I pull up to my new pad off load my few groceries and notice some other tenant left beer in the fridge, talk about luck. I got the beer went to the deck and watched the sunset over the sky. It was going to be new here, but I needed a fresh start after getting dumped and losing the job because my ex was in upper management, never will I do that again. I will find someone who does not work in the school system. After I ate a roast beef and cheddar sandwich for dinner, watched some cooking shows it was time for bed. As I was brushing my teeth, I heard the neighbors having sex. Oh, goody they are not quiet. hope they do not have super energy either. Tomorrow is my first full day and I have decorating to do, fantastic they stopped, that is the thing with us older people we do not fuck like bunnies anymore. As far as I know the neighbors are lesbians so who knows.
Sample 1- If I try my hardest, I could muster up enough courage to ask the prettiest girl in school to prom. I had a suit; bolo tie and I will shine my old boots up. The thing is my courage is not as strong as my best friend Nick, now there is one brave dude who just asked the girl I wanted to go to prom with and of course she said yes. I gather myself close my locker and put on my best smile for them both. Nick and I high five and I hug her, trying to be genuine but it is hard. I head to my Social studies class and sit down next to Megan she looks at me with some concern I tell her what happened, she then asks me to Prom…...
Sample 2-Wishing I did not have to be here I sit at the back of the funeral and think about my old high school principal. I grew up in a small town and everyone knew everyone, we only had one school and you went there for kindergarten through senior year. After my graduation I packed up my old car and headed out to what I thought was the real world. Living in a bigger city only helped spur my loneliness so who says you cannot come home again, well Mom for starters because I abandoned my family, I am not welcome at home ever again (so tired of her drama), so I am staying at Principal Mason’s house yes, the same principal that I am at a funeral for I held her hand as she lay there succumbing to cancer……
Sample 3-If you really want to get over a breakup getting back on the horse will help things along. I thought that too seven lousy dates ago so here I am on date number 8 and I am not seeing any birds singing or rainbows in the sky. He steps away to take a call he is a particularly important lawyer after all (I need to fix my picker) after he comes back, he says it go time the jury has come back so off he goes. I finish my drink and head back to my brownstone close by, I pass the new chocolate shop that just opened, and I get inside and see chocolate heaven. Looking around I do not see him at first but there he is my old college lab partner Sam I just saw a rainbow…….

This is why it's struggling against real events.
The important essential functions and structures are bare bones and neglected while the cruise industry is being rescued. The cruise industry.
Some say it's about cruise industry jobs but maybe it's an issue so many jobs are tied to amusement industries. No, entire cities if not states are tied to them.
Las Vegas is a ghost town right now. It's based on exaggerated live shows, casinos, and restaurants. How long will it take Las Vegas to recover? What happens to the state of Nevada?
Miami resisted quarantine for a reason. It's economy is based on tourism. The whole city is an amusement park. Restaurants, clubs, beaches. Go up to Orlando where you have disneyland, sea world, universal studios.
New Orleans, Hawaii, Los Angeles. The list goes on where partying, drinking and eating keeps the engine running.
Not just for tourist but it's how many Americans live across the USA.
Constant consumption, amusement & partying.
There are EMT, pharmacy tech, nurse aide shortages. Nurses and doctors are quitting because of a lack of PPE. Plumbers, social workers, drivers are needed. There are jobs but people concentrate in amusement industries, in restaurant industries, in fashion industries. Look at the wedding industry.
A sacred ceremony turned into a fashion show disney princess fantasy experience. Elaborate flower bouquets, ten tier wedding cakes and dreamy dresses won't be relevant in a post-covid world.
Viruses are one thing. Extreme weather is getting stronger and more consistent. More ways to paralyze Miami, New York or New Orleans. Then what? If one goes down it can take down others.
I don't believe throwing money at this situation will work. Spending will never be the same again so why would a money dump fix the issue? We're going down and if we don't transform the way we live it's going to get real ugly.

Fellow geniuses, let me guide you through what many will consider a totally inept analysis of the virus impact.
First, I am not a "permabear" despite many bearish posts and comments. However, I was already bearish prior to this virus, thinking the party had gone on too long and we needed a correction. It would be nice for people not to lose money, and everything be great, however I am a realist.
TL;DR: This virus is here for awhile and that will impact consumer behavior longer than just a few months. Even with a cure or vaccine, the emotional toll of having to deal with the seasonal flu, plus coronavirus, could take years to normalize. The economic impact will be substantial.

I'm hopeful that we'll get through this first wave and, and have some time to prepare for the second wave. I'm hopeful that the private sector in its ingenuity and working with the government, NIH, will develop a vaccine that ultimately will change the impact of this virus.
But for the next 24 months, you know, we're all in this together, and the most important thing that we can do is twofold: the American public fully embracing the social distancing that we requested to protect the vulnerable; and secondly, to operationalize the bread and butter of public health, you know, early case identification, isolation, contact tracing, so that this outbreak does not get the upper hand, as it has, unfortunately, in New York City, in northern New Jersey, and now New Orleans.- CDC Director

CDC Director - This Virus Will Be With Us
This is not going away after the first wave. We will have a second wave, and most likely another after that. We all know the flu by itself kills tens of thousands annually, even with a vaccine available for years.
People are used to the Flu, it has been with us for a long time. But it still kills many people worldwide each year. Now, imagine adding a new virus that we are all scared of to every flu season. If you did not get it during the first wave, you probably don't want to get it in the second or third. This fear will greatly impact many people's behavior. How they travel, spend, etc, and this will impact the economy for an extended length of time.
One in three Americans say a household member has been laid off or had their pay cut

Fully a third of Americans have someone in their household who’s been laid off or lost pay. The economic and humanitarian damage here is incredibly widespread, even more than the unemployment claims data suggests.
The Google Trends data is especially alarming right now, because searches for “file for unemployment” are far, far higher than they were in the depths of the Great Recession.
Two economists, the University of Minnesota’s Aaron Sojourner and Yale’s Paul Goldsmith-Pinkham, have built a model for predicting unemployment claims based on news reports. Their initial model nearly nailed the 3.3 million number, predicting 3.4 million new claims. They now project 4.7 million new claims for the week ending March 27, a huge spike from an already record number.

Even with government checks and recovery money, many of these companies and jobs won't come back. Weak businesses, the small mom and pop types, who were already struggling, won't make it through this. Unemployment will remain elevated longer than some anticipate.
We had already seen a shift to many people working for themselves, also known as the gig economy. Many of these people are either already unemployed or will remain underemployed for months, if not years. This includes everyone from subcontractors, to your self employed business owners.

34% GDP Plunge

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. expects the U.S. economy to experience a far deeper slump than previously anticipated as the coronavirus pandemic hammers businesses, causing a wave of mass unemployment.
The world’s largest economy will shrink an annualized 34% in the second quarter, compared with an earlier estimate of 24%, economists led by Jan Hatzius wrote in a report. Unemployment will soar to 15% by mid-year, up from a previous forecast of 9%, they wrote.
The economists, however, now expect a stronger recovery in the third quarter, with gross domestic product expanding 19%.“Our estimates imply that a bit more than half of the near-term output decline is made up by year-end,” they wrote. While there’s a risk of longer-term fallout on income and spending, the aggressive action by the Federal Reserve and the government should help to contain this.

Goldman Sees Deeper Plunge
34% is just a massive impact. They do expect a strong recovery (as do many) but it still won't immediately make up for the total hit we will take. One can't help but wonder how much of this won't go away, and how long it will take to get back on track.
Conclusion:
We will get out of this and life will return to normal. However, those calling bottoms, and talking V shape recovery in only a month or so may be shortsighted. People will spend less going forward, impacting all areas of the economy. The emotional and financial toll of this virus may take years to fully normalize.
Position: Overall outlook for the next few months or so is bearish, despite the irrational exuberance of the bulls this past week.

I would like to just point out this is just my opinion using the facts I was giving. I figured that finding Francis' location in Alabama was the easiest. I concluded that Francis most likely was in Birmingham, AL because he was five hours away from New Orleans for the episode where he went to Mardi Gras with his friends (S2E15 Grandparents: 3:32). From there I looked for what places where 5,000 mi away from Alaska because Malcolm said their house was 5,000 miles away from Alaska (S3E2 Emancipation: 11:10). Since Alaska is a huge state I concluded that he was most likely in Anchorage, AK because Francis said they would get cruise ships (that is farthest north cruises go) and the rest of the state is not that accessible. Also it was in wooded area which Anchorage has. Most people say that it's in California or even Texas but those are only 3,000 miles away. I figured the state had to be south because it doesn't snow often (S6E3 Standee: 2:00). Also their lockers were outside in high school which is more common in hotter states (S4E4 Stupid Girl: 2:20). From their I tried South Carolina which still was too short so I tried Orlando, Fl which ended up being 4,753 miles which is almost 5,000 miles. To make sure that was accurate I saw how long it would take from Orlando to Birmingham which was a little over eight hours which fit with what Hal said it took to drive to Francis after Hal lied to Commandant Spangler (S2E12 Krelboyne Girl: 16:14). So in conclusion I believe they live somewhere in Flordia near Orlando, possibly. This fits with being able to visit Lois' half sister in Manitoba Canada (they say 21 hrs but it is about 29 so it's little off but it works better than other ideas) (S5E20 Victor's Other Family: 2:30) and when they go to an Indian Casino (S2E5 Casino) which could be in Arkansas, Oklahoma or Texas. The only true thing that doesn't go with my prediction is that Malcolm goes to Harvard which he stated is 2,000 miles away, it's 1,281 miles, which is more consistent with Texas (but that doesn't go with the other information) (S7E22 Graduation: 1:15). Since this is more of an outlier than other given information I concluded it was a random number (as most of these could be). Of course everything depends on where in Alaska Francis was which was more of a prediction of mine (even though it fit with the cruises) as well as the Canada thing. Though some things are inconsistent, this is the most reasonable conclusion. As I would like to say again this is only my opinion with the facts that were given to me.

I am almost stuck halfway between Cherokee in North Carolina, and Hard Rock Seminole in Tampa. I was disappointed to find out from the dealer at my table today that Hard Rock doesn't have roulette tables... only e-roulette. I'd rather not play e-roulette because I don't trust computer programs being truly random. Is there like a list or directory of casinos in the US that have actual roulette tables on them? I've been to 2 casinos in Atlantic City that had them (can't remember the names). I know Harrah's in New Orleans has a few actual tables. Asking so I can plan a weekend in advanced on where to fly to. Roulette is the only game in a casino I actually enjoy playing. It seemed like a normal cruise, a 5-day party barge with a buffet, a casino, shows every night, and drunk college kids by the pool. That is, until footage of the zombie apocalypse started coming in on the satellite TVs.
If you can't see the video, the zombie-like creatures have been seen at the marina. One video uploaded to YouTube shows a group of them chasing a group of people in the water, with the leader saying "Come on we are going to kill you".
Another video shows a small boy on the dock with his nose bloodied from being bitten by the zombie.
I'm sure that was a prank, but the fact that people are actually being attacked by zombies in the water suggests that there must be more than a few of them.
The videos went viral, and people were horrified. One person wrote on the Reddit page "I have never seen anything like it. I was in the water, and watched a group of people get bitten and run off in panic. I have never been so scared in my life", while another wrote "I don't know how to get out of the marina as the sea is filled with undead".
The Mariner's Club confirmed that things were indeed happening, and has now put out a statement:
"Mariner's Club is aware of the disturbing reports from around the marina, and we are working with local authorities and security personnel to investigate the incident. We have no further information to share at this time."
The marina is located roughly 30 miles south of New Orleans and it is unclear when the incident took place.
The New Orleans Shrimp Festival has been cancelled, although there is a chance it could be rescheduled. The festival will take place in the next few days, but the festival director has not revealed the reason for the cancellation.

Hi! We were given a "free" Norwegian cruise from the casino. I am looking at the Gateway leaving from New Orleans, a 7 day cruise. I have a couple of questions.
I have motion sickness anytime I fly or I am in a car. I do a little bit of sailing and as long as I am above deck and I can see a horizon it is okay. Its easier when I am on a 50' sailboat but even then it can get bad if it is too rough. The coupon is for an inside room. Is it worth upgrading to an ocean view or balcony room. I would perfer to save the money and use it on drinks, but I also don't want to be dying at night from motion sickness. I have been known to throw up on airplanes... I have no issues with trains though but they have those big windows.
The drink packages for NCL are crazy expensive is it worth it? 100 per a person per a day! That would be 1400 for the two or us. We are heavy drinkers but I can't image we would spend that much on booze without the package. I thought about the wine and beer package as I do drink more wine then mixed drinks and it is 65 a day. It does say you can get 2 drinks when you order. As long as I am not staying at the bar can is it easy to split one drink package?
Is the "free" cruise worth it? The inside stateroom wit taxes and fees will be around 400. With an upgrade to an ocean view an additional 230 a person and balcony being 500 a person. This was not from a timeshare or a "free cruise giveaway". The casino every year gives out "free cruises" based on you status in your players club card. You could pick pretty much any port in US and Canada up to 11 days cruise.

I'm going to apologize in advance for the length of this post as there's no short way to tell it without splitting it in two. My name is Ripley and your OP has graciously allowed me to tell my story. Again, I'm so, so sorry.
Love at first sight, most folks think it’s a myth, more likely its Lust at first sight and the feelings grow from prolonged familiarity with the object of your infatuation. Truth be told, this is probably how most relationships begin. This relationship was no exception. I was driving for a nationwide company that had me on a regional haul, up and down the Mississippi corridor was my territory, I usually hauled things that wouldn’t be allowed on the river itself, Hazmat, things like that.
My name is Ripley, Yes, my parents were huge Ridley Scott fans back in the day and I am indeed named after Sigourney Weaver’s character in the Alien film series. Not a bad role model to have growing up as a painfully shy brunette who barely sprouted tits at age 17, in rural Wisconsin. Most of the girls I was surrounded by had the bodies of full grown women by the time they were 14. It was embarrassing as fuck, especially when the boys you choose to have crushes on decide to join in the torment by saying that Ripley isn’t just your name, it’s your figure, like a warped board, thin, flat and Ripley, that was me. The only difference between me and a board was that I was in no danger of getting nailed anytime soon.
That was fine with me after a certain point. I realized I was more attracted to girls by the time I hit 14, the boys were my parents idea and I humored my mom when she’d point out a “cute guy” and I would look along with her, but my eyes were usually drawn to the girl on his arm. The toughest times were changing for gym and feeling the strange stirrings in my nether regions and the butterflies in my stomach when another girl would stand there, completely confident in her nakedness, rambling on as if we were girlfriends hanging out in the food court at the mall, talking about boys. I found it difficult not to stare at their breasts while they spoke and would usually avert my eyes, focused on something really interesting in my locker.
I was so ashamed of my body that I was made fun of for wearing a bathing suit in the shower. I tried not to shower with the other girls because even though they mistook my arousal for being cold, it was still humiliating, “Ladies! Come see the tit-less wonder as she tries to mimic the teacher’s stapler and stick herself to the wall with her nipples!” “Watch as she cuts glass with her moundless nubbins!” God, teenage girls are rotten cunts.
I wanted to go to college but my folks just couldn’t afford it. Financial aid would have put me in debt up to my eyeballs, so I did what I could, I joined the Marines. I was a BAM through and through, I sprouted muscles instead of tits. I got hit on by more guys in the Corps than you’d believe. Either I really looked good to them or those guys were fucking desperate. Either way, I tried dating guys, even had sex with one or two. I wasn’t impressed and I’ve come to the conclusion that dicks are gross. I tried Mom… I really did, sorry, no grandkids from me.
I served my 4 years and got out. I thought about going to college right then but I decided to see the country a bit. All the deployments in the Corps filled me with a bit of wanderlust. So I started this job, driving.
So here we are, back in the present, so to speak. I’d been driving for a few years when I landed this gig. I love the Mississippi River Valley. All the way from the Delta in NOLA to the navigable headwaters all the way up in Minnesota. There’s so many different kinds of people and cultures and they just become a blur of beautiful humanity, Norwegians and Dutch in the north to the Cajun, French and every other culture that has made a home in that region.
For the most part, the people of this region are very friendly and accommodating, and, in particular, the women of the delta, my gawd, girls in New Orleans are very, very liberal and friendly. Life is hard enough as a female truck driver without your male counterparts giving you shit for being a “Muff-Munching-Bull-Dyke”. First of all, I’m far from a bull-dyke. I’m about as girly as lesbians come, the only things that meet their description are my occupation and that I love women as much as they do. Secondly, I’m more into receiving oral than giving, so I don’t do too much munching.
That being said, I will make exceptions for the right woman. I think I found her. I was having lunch at the Huddle House in the Palace Truck Stop & Casino, right there off Old Gentilly Rd. in New Orleans. I stop there every time I’m in NOLA because their hash browns are phe-nom-nom-nom-enal.
I was sitting at the counter looking at the menu, just for shits and giggles, I know what I’m ordering before I even walk in the place so looking at the menu is just a formality. I heard a voice from behind my menu, a new voice, almost intoxicating from the start. “Coffee Darlin?” I slowly lowered the menu, and before my eye was one of the most beautiful creatures the creator put on this earth. Now, I know that if you saw her, she might be a little bit plain Jane for this description to fit. For me however, she was perfection. Strawberry-blonde pixie-cut, green eyes the color of an old Mt. Dew bottle, cute button of a nose and the bowed lips, smiling right at me. “Coffee, yes… coffee and a glass of water, please.” Even with the amount of life I had under my belt, I was terribly awkward around pretty girls, still.
“Hi, I’m Barrett” she held out her delicate hand, which I gladly took, “Hi… I-I’m R-Ripley…”. GODDAMMIT, why did I have to stutter like an idiot NOW? She stared at me with an astonished look. “Shut the front door, Ripley? Like… Ellen Ripley?” I hung my head a little bit. “Yeah, my folks are huge Sci-fi/Horror fans. Say, what kind on name is Barrett, for a girl anyway?” She giggled then and it was a sound like the wind chimes in the gentlest summer breeze.
“Looks like our folks were both fans of Ms. Weaver, My parents named me after Dana Barrett, her character in Ghostbusters.” By this time, my heart was hammering so hard in my chest that it was hard to hear her. “That’s weird and crazy.” She seemed to catch herself then, “Oh my, Ripley, let me get your coffee and water, you know what you want, or do you need a minute?” I gave her my order and let her get about her job, I didn’t want to get her in trouble. I tried not to watch her the whole time, but she made it difficult. She looked to be about five-three, and I guessed about a hundred and twenty pounds. Next to my five-nine and one hundred and fifty pounds, she was so tiny, and adorable, and… snap out of it Ripley, jesus.
The owner walked in then, “Rip! How’s it hangin girlfriend?” Internally, I sighed exasperatedly. “Hey Will, how goes it?” “Dandy! Haulin the daaaaangerous stuff?” Will was a goofy fucker, but a likable guy for the most part. Probably the most closeted queen I’ve ever met. He proclaimed his straightness with a fervor usually reserved for suicide bombers, but I’m fairly certain he was the only one who didn’t know exactly how gay he was. “Have you met the new girl, Barrett? Barrett! Honey, get over here sweet cheeks!” I turned my head in her direction and expected her to look mortified, she was smiling and practically skipping my direction.
“Yes sir, what can I do for ya boss-man?” A more chipper ray of sunshine there wasn’t. “Barrett, darlin, this here, is Ms. Ripley, long time customer, salt of the earth gal and certifiable badass, lives up to her namesake, isn’t that right Marine?” His mouth dropped open as he looked at me. He went full-on queen mode when he saw my face, “Well, Bless my stars and bars! Ripley, are you BLUSHING?”
I quickly excused myself and rushed to the bathroom, I was practically hyperventilating when I sat on the bench opposite the mirrors. Jesus-fuck Ripley, get your shit together. I heard the creak of the bathroom door and quickly stood and walked to the sink, running water, I splashed myself with cold water, when I stood, Barrett was there, behind me.
“Are you alright?” her eyebrows were raised in genuine concern. I cleared my throat, “y-yeah (dammit), I’m fine, Will is just a bit much for me sometimes.” She laughed, “HA! Tell me about it, try being related to him, he’s my Mom’s little brother.” That made me laugh as well, “Oh dear god , you poor thing.” I sat on the bench, “I’m sorry about that earlier, I usually don’t get that flustered, it’s just…” She sat next to me on the bench. “Look, I’m not a forward person, at all.” I was looking at my hands as she reached over and took one of them, “Ripley, I get off at 3, so in (she looked at her watch) about 2 hours. Be here.” With that, she gave me a peck on the cheek and strolled out of the bathroom. What. Just. Happened?
I had two hours, I mentioned I’m a girly-girl, right? Barely enough time to get ready. I rushed to my truck, grabbed my toiletry kit, my makeup bag, thought about the humidity, stowed the makeup, thought better of it and grabbed the makeup again. I bring about 2 dresses with me on the road, not because I’m expecting a date, but because if I’m going to be somewhere for a day or two, I tend to like to feel like a woman, off the truck, scrubbed up and presentable. I went to the showers and shaved every stray hair from the armpits down, not that I was confident of getting laid or anything, hell, I didn’t even know if Barrett was being anything but friendly, but if I’m wearing a dress, it’s gotta go! I washed my hair and combed it out, its natural waviness let it drop to about the small of my back. I checked my eyebrows, they were ok. Protip: If you EVER want to freak a girl out, just occasionally glance up at her eyebrows questioningly. It’s a brutal mind-fuck that I reserve for my most reviled enemies.
I grabbed my stuff and stowed my gear back in the truck. I grabbed a pair of heels but stowed a pair of flip-flops in my small backpack/purse, just in case we were going to be doing a lot of walking. I want to at least look pretty, but I don’t want to hurt my feet, (insert joke about lesbians with comfortable shoes here). I had about 20 minutes to wait for Barrett to get off, so I went to the restaurant and had a seat at the counter, the looks of other regulars who had never seen me in a dress were hilarious, they didn’t recognize me at first. Will came up to the counter and asked “What can I ge…. Holy Shit!, Rip? Ohmygawd, you’re a girl!” I laughed, “Thanks for noticing, dick.”
Barrett came in from the walk-in freezer and shivered, she saw me and her mouth dropped open, she mouthed the word “Wow”, it was too much, I felt a flush creep up my spine and down my arms. “I… uh..I got the freezer restocked” she was staring at me, Will noticed how we were locked in this gaze and cleared his throat. “A-hem, I, uh… think you’re good to go Bear-bear. Give Uncle Will a hug before you go.” She did then ran off to get changed. Will turned his eyes on me. “Rip, she’s a young lady, 19, I want you to realize that and I also want you to know, I approve, but if you hurt her, I’ll cut your balls off.” He swooped in and pecked me on the cheek. “Now get out of here and stop eye-fucking each other in the restaurant, people are trying to eat.”
I looked up and Barrett was waving me to the door. Outside, she motioned for me to do a turn, which I humored. “My sweet baby jesus, Ripley, you are gorgeous! I mean, I thought you were pretty in the jeans and tank-top, but damn.” I couldn’t take my eyes off her, and my chest hurt a little, probably because my heart was beating the shit out of my ribs. “Stop it, you’re going to make me faint from all the blood rushing to my face, you want me constantly blushing?” I looked at what she was wearing, capris and a t-shirt, I was ok with that. She reached in her purse and pulled out a key fob, “Hop in, we’re stopping by my place so I can change.”
I hopped in her tiny Mini-Cooper, “Mom let me borrow it until I get a newer car, my Prius died last week.” As she drove the 15 minutes to her apartment just off Tulane University campus, she explained how she was a student in their pre-nursing program, “Mom has been a nurse longer than I’ve been alive and she’s always been my hero, I’ve wanted to do this since I was a little crawdad.”
We had so much in common, but a lot of differences, she was a popular girl in school, but never dated boys, she said she’s known she liked girls since about 7th grade, but had never been in a serious relationship until her senior year. It ended badly when her girlfriend moved to Ohio for college and started seeing someone else. “Columbus has a large LGBT population and she just… grew into herself I guess, and outgrew me.” She sighed then, it sounded like it still bothered her, a lot.
“What about you? Any relationships?” I told her no, not really. “I tried dating boys when I was in denial, it didn’t work out.” I grimaced. She laughed. “I touched one, once. That’s all it took, it was too weird. I like mine with batteries and no feelings attached, thanks.”
We parked on the street a few blocks from her place and walked, she took my hand and led the way, in the building and up to the second floor room garden apartment that was her sanctum. She immediately flopped on the couch and flung her shoes into the air. “Ahhhhhhhhhhh! Oh man, that feels good!” She patted a cushion near her head and said “sit”. I did. Ever since I laid eyes on her, I’d wanted to touch her, I reached out a hand and ran my fingers through her short, strawberry-blonde hair.
She let out a luxuriant groan, “Ohhhhhhhhhhmgawd, yes…. Right there.” And began shaking her leg like a dog when you scratch just the right spot, she caught me off guard and I didn’t laugh, I guffawed so hard that I snorted, we desolved into giggles like best friends at a sleepover. It was the first time I’ve ever felt this comfortable with another human being.
After just sitting there for a while she sat up an announced, “Well, I’m gong to hop in the shower and get that greasy spoon off me. Then we can go somewhere. I’ll be right back. Unless you just wanna come in there and talk while I get ready.” I went in with her and watched her as she stripped off her clothes nonchalantly and hopped in the glass-doored shower.
Her body was sheer perfection in my eyes, from the faint tan lines on her breasts and ass, to the little tiny heart tattoo on her left hip. I felt a bit dizzy with adoration for this girl, this woman I’d just met, it seemed crazy and I actually pinched myself, “Ow!” she jumped as I had been silent for a minute while she washed her hair. “what was that? Are you ok?” I rubbed the spot where I’d pinched myself and told her I was fine as I watched the bubbles trail down her well muscled legs. “So, what do you want to do? I’ve got 72 hours before I have to get back on the road.”
“That long?” she sounded pleasantly surprised as she finished rinsing and shut off the water, “Hand me those two towels, please.” I did and we made plans for the evening. As we were leaving her apartment, I felt like I was being watched, Barrett stiffened a little as she locked her door and I looked at her questioningly. She shook her head ever so slightly and walked down the stairs at a speed that probably wasn’t best for her heels. Outside, she shuddered in the balmy night air, “The guy across the hall, gives me the heebie-jeebies, it’s like I can feel him watching me through his peep hole.”
I told her I’d felt it too, she put her arm through mine and leaned on me a little as we walked to the corner where our Uber driver said he’d pick us up. It was a short ride to the French Quarter and our waiting reservation at Galatoir’s, but it was a good idea to catch a ride as the weekend festivities seemed to have already kicked off on Bourbon St. and we ended up walking the last 2 blocks to the restaurant, followed the whole way by wolf-whistles and shouted propositions. We held tight to each other’s hands and politely dismissed them all, giggling all the way.
I was on Cloud Nine as the evening went by in a blur, punctuated by flashes of flavor as course after course came our way, I was a bit tipsy from the wine we’d consumed and I was ready to go wherever, dancing, drinking, to a party, I didn’t care as long as Barrett was by my side. We left the restaurant later than I’d thought it was going to be and the revelry seemed to be in full swing. As we navigated our way through the crush of people, we were groped and pawed at from every direction, or at least I felt like it. My skin was crawling by the time we reached a break in the crowd, Barrett seemed to be having a similarly difficult time.
“Well, that was fun.” I laughed as I adjusted my dress back to the way it should be. We hopped a cab back to her place and she stopped me before we went in the building, pointing up at her balcony. The sliding door was slightly open and one of her lights was on. “The fuck, Ripley. We turned everything off and locked up tight, right?” To be honest, I was so caught up in her that I hadn’t noticed. “I think so” I pulled out my phone, “I’m calling the cops.” She held out a hand to stop me, then thought better of it. “Good idea, fuck, this night was going so well.”
I saw tears welling up in her eyes and pulled her close to me. I gave the address to the dispatcher and they stayed on the phone with me for the 5 minutes it took someone from NOLA PD to show up, along with a car from Tulane University Campus Security. “Who’s the resident?” asked a tall, skinny cop. Barrett raised her hand and he took her aside to ask questions for a moment before he and his partner went into the building with Barrett’s keys and her express permission to kick the shit out of whoever had violated her home. We stood on the edge of the sidewalk and watched as the lights came on in her apartment and we heard the cops announce their presence to whoever might still be in there.
One of the cops, the tall one, threw open the balcony door and rushed out, vomiting over the side of the wrought-iron railing. We both gasped at what we were seeing but still didn’t quite comprehend. The other cop walked out of the building and caught her breath. “Ms., do you own cats?” Her brow furrowed, “No officer, we can’t have pets, what the hell happened in there?” The cop gave her a look of sympathy as she led her further down the block. “It’s probably best that you don’t go in there right now. Somebody…” she gagged a little as if just thinking about what she’d seen was too much.
“Barrett, can I call you Barrett?” she nodded her assent, “Barrett, do you know anyone that might wish you harm?” Barrett shook her head, “No… No, nobody. Please, what is going on?”
Tears rimmed the officer’s eyes, “Honey, this is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen and I’ve been a cop for 12 years. Right now, I just think we should get a statement of your whereabouts and activities over the last 24 hours and, do you have somewhere to stay tonight?” I chimed in, “she can stay with me.” The officer nodded and made a phone call. “A detective will be calling you in the morning for your details.” She passed Barrett a card and handed Barrett her keys, minus her the one to her front door.
“I’m so sorry Ripley, I have no idea what’s going on, I.. I..” she burst into tears and threw her arms around my waist, her face buried in my shoulder. I led her away from the scene walking the few blocks to her car. “Where are we going to stay? You said I could stay with you tonight.” I pulled her closer, “We can get a hotel, or we could stay in my truck, it’s up to you.” She seemed to think it over for a bit as I unlocked her car and opened the passenger door for her. “I’ve never stayed in a truck before, I think it’d be fun.” I smiled and put her car in drive, glad for once that the Corps had turned me into a neat freak.
It was a brief drive to the truck stop and I parked her car near the Huddle House and we walked to my truck. I noticed a black minivan trailing behind us, after the events of the night, it unnerved me a bit, so I took us a roundabout way through the maze of trucks and trailers, ducking between them when I noticed no followers. I got us to my truck and helped Barrett inside.
I shut the door and threw the curtains, peeking out in time to see that same black minivan cruising slowly down the aisle. “Well, that was an adventure, what was that all about?” I shushed her as the van cruised by. “Do you know anyone who owns a black minivan?” I saw her brow furrow in concentration, even in the darkness of my truck cab. “Black minivan, Ripley, what’s going on?”
“I think someone is following us. Is there something you should have told the cops? Is there someone they should be looking at, like an ex, or someone you turned down, anything?” She looked scared, “No, nothing! I swear, I haven’t been in a relationship or anything since my ex moved to Ohio. I’ve had the occasional offer from both guys and girls alike, but no, nothing stands out.” I mulled that over and got my phone out again, “I think we should call the police.” She sat on the bottom bunk in my sleeper, “Can you get the license plate or something, tell them about it in the morning? I just want some peace right now.”
I’d met Barrett less than 12 hours earlier and here I was, making decisions for her, I cared for this girl. Too much? Too fast? “I’m sorry, but I can’t be negligent about this, as crazy as it sounds, I care for you Barrett. I don’t want a missed opportunity to stop whatever is going on before it goes too far, do you understand me?” I dialed the number on the card she handed me. “Officer Beauman.” It was the same officer, good. “Officer, my name is Ripley, I was with Barrett, the girl whose apartment you and your partner responded to earlier this evening.” There was a pause.
“Yes, I remember you. How can I help you?” I told her the situation and I heard the sirens fire up in the background. “Can you two stay where you are? We’re on our way now, we meant to call her in the morning but under the circumstances, I’ll tell you what’s going on.”
I told the officer to hold on a second and put the phone on speaker, “Go ahead officer, Barrett can hear you.” There was a pause on the other end, only the wail of the sirens could be heard. A man spoke, “Barrett, does the name Chrissy Seaquist mean anything to you?” There was a sharp intake from Barrett, “Omg, Chrissy, she’s my ex, but what does she have to do with this? She moved to Ohio over a year ago.” Another pause,
“Barrett, this may come as a bit of a shock, but it seems Chrissy’s parents filed a missing person’s report two months ago, she disappeared from Ohio State campus, without a trace. Tonight, as we were processing your apartment, we found fingerprints and they immediately flagged under that missing person’s report.
We were sure that Chrissy was the subject we were going to look for in connection with the vandalizing of your apartment.” I sensed a “but”. “However, when we started clearing your apartment we found… we fragments of human remains Barrett, we found the hand of Chrissy Seaquist in your bed Barrett. We have some questions for you and (pause) Ripley.”
I looked at the phone in disbelief, “Look, officers, We’re not going anywhere but if you’d be so kind as to get here most Rikki-tikki, and check out this black van, it’d be greatly appreciated.” I gave them my truck description and ID numbers and got off the phone.
“In the meantime.” I told Barrett, “I better stow this”. I took my Springfield XD .40 and stuck in in the hidden lock box under my bunk. Barrett’s eye widened, “You had a gun on you this whole time?” I laughed and kissed her. “Honey, you don't last in the real world by being a sheep.” We lay on the bed and held each other and waited for the cops to show up.
