Game Preview Week 15 Philadelphia Eagles (4-8-1) @ Arizona Cardinals (7-6)

Philadelphia Eagles (4-8-1) vs Arizona Cardinals (7-6)
The Jalen Hurts era started in Philly with a bang as the Eagles knocked off the number 1 seed Saints being a strong rushing attack led by Hurts and Miles Sanders. The defense was the real winner in this game as they completely shut down the Saints offense for most of the game. But the win came at a cost, Rodney McLeod tore his MCL and will be out for the season and a number of other defenders left the game and will be questionable going into the game this week. The Eagles also lost starting RT Jack Driscoll for the remainder of the season to a MCL sprain. The Eagles with their rookie QB at the helm will travel to Arizona this week to take on the Arizona Cardinals who need a win to stay close in the playoff hunt. The loss of McLeod will be felt as the Cardinals come in with an impressive passing attack led by Kylar Murray and WRs DeAndre Hopkins and Christian Kirk. Jim Schwartz will need to come up with a game plan to shutdown the Cardinals big time WRs with a banged up secondary. At the same time they will need to slow down the Cardinals running game where Murray is also dangerous, but Kenyon Drake is the real threat. The Eagles will also unfortunately still be fighting for a playoff spot by winning the NFCE shitpile, but will be eliminated this week with a Washington win and an Eagles loss. Here is to an injury free game.

Eagles 34 - Cardinals 7
The Eagles scored early and often in this game, for their first blowout win of the season against the Arizona Cardinals. Carson Wentz found tight ends Trey Burton and Zach Ertz for early touchdowns, and later connected with wide receiver Torrey Smith for a 59-yard touchdown to finish the first quarter. Following Smith's touchdown, the Eagles unveiled their baseball home run celebration for the first time all season. The closest the Cardinals came was in the second quarter when they trailed 21–7 following a John Brown 13-yard touchdown. In the mid third quarter, on 3rd and 19, Wentz found wide receiver Nelson Agholor for a 72-yard touchdown pass, on which Agholor juked rookie safety Budda Baker and finished the play with the Nestea Plunge. The final score was 34–7, and Wentz threw for four touchdowns, including three first quarter touchdown passes.

Jalen Hurts started his first career game in Week 14 vs. New Or-leans, leading the Eagles to a 24-21 victory over the 10-2 Saints. Hurts, the Eagles’ youngest starting QB since Jack Concannon in 1964, became the second QB in NFL history to beat a team on a 9+ game winning streak in their starting debut, joining Ron Jawor-ski (12/20/75 vs. Pittsburgh with L.A. Rams - snapped Steelers’ 11-game streak). He also became the first NFL QB since 1950 to throw a TD pass and rush for 100+ yards in their first start.
Miles Sanders (746 rushing yards, 5 TDs), ranks 2nd among NFL RBs in rushing average (5.7), behind Nick Chubb (5.9) (min. 125 attempts). In Week 14 vs. New Orleans, Sanders recorded an 82-yard rushing TD, marking the 4th-longest rushing play in Eagles history. He is the first NFL RB with 3 rushes of 70+ yards in the same season since 2012, when Jamaal Charles, Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson each accomplished the feat.
Philadelphia’s defense ranks 2nd in the NFL with 43.0 sacks, trail-ing only Pittsburgh (45.0). Since Week 10, Fletcher Cox ranks 1st among NFL DTs with 4.0 sacks, while Javon Hargrave is tied for 2nd with Aaron Donald and Leonard Williams with 3.5 sacks.
Dallas Goedert is one of three NFL TEs with 250+ receiving yards (261) and 2+ TDs (2) since Week 11, joining Travis Kelce (481 yards, 3 TDs) and Darren Waller (386 yards, 3 TDs).

Food for Thought
The 1948 Philadelphia Eagles-Chicago Cardinals Championship Bout
Eagles fans recall Super Bowl LII with wonder and relish in it. These days, that date seems so very long ago, but there was another magical Championship game I’d like to remind you of, as the Eagles and Cardinals face off (and the Northeast just got a snow dump), the Eagles’ first championship. Sure, this team the Eagles will face is not the Chicago Cardinals or the St. Louis Cardinals or the Phoenix Cardinals, but it’s the same franchise of course.
As far as snowy games, fans typically recall the Eagles’ fun snow game of 2013 against the Lions in which players made snow angels in the endzone, but there was an even more memorable one, one which Eagles RB Steve Van Buren didn’t even think was going to take place. With a blizzard harrowing Philadelphia: “I was sure they wouldn’t be able to play and went back to bed,” Van Buren told [Joe Jonas]. “Then, ‘Greasy’ (coach Earle Neale) called and told me the game was on and to get a move on. I had to take a trolley, then the El, and then a second trolley. When that trolley bogged down in the snow, I had to walk down Lehigh Avenue through the drifts about two miles to the park. I got there just a couple of minutes before the kickoff.” source. Van Buren and the Eagles proceeded to run amok all over the Cardinals that fateful day.
Where the Cardinals managed 34 rushes for 96 yards, Van Buren led the Eagles to a 57 for 225 line day (let’s disregard Eagles QB Tommy Thompson stumbling toward a 0.0 passer rating: 2/12 for 7 yards and 2 INTs). Despite the Eagles controlling the game--in fact, the Eagles scored on the 1st play of the game, but it was called back for Offsides--it wasn’t until a minute left in the 4th that either team scored, a 5 yard rush by Van Buren. In victory, the Eagles exacted revenge on the Cardinals for losing the championship matchup the year prior 28-21.
Matchups to Watch
Arizona rushing attack vs the Eagles front seven
The Eagles have repeatedly struggled this season with teams who have mobile quarterbacks, who are able to escape the pocket. They did well last week against Taysom Hill, however this week they will take on Kylar Murray who is a lot closer to Lamar Jackson than Taysom Hill. The Eagles gave up 100 yards and a TD when they faced Jackson this season.again Like Jackson, Kylar Murray has the ability to break off big runs, as he is second to Jackson in rushing yards by a QB this season. Murray has over 700 rushing yards and a league leading 10 rushing TDs by a QB this season. Pair that with the impressive running attack of Kenyon Drake and the Eagles front seven will have their hands full on Sunday. With a talented receiving corp of the Cardinals the Eagles will not be able to stack the box and it will be on the front seven to keep contain and stay in the lanes to keep Murray and Drake in check. If they don’t and allow the Cardinals to establish the run look for the Cardinals to pound the run and look for a big play off play-action to one of their talented WRs.
Eagles banged up secondary vs the talented receiving corp of the Cardinals
In their win over the Saints, the Eagles lost their two best players in the secondary in safety Rodney McLeod and CB Darius Slay. McLeod unfortunately tore his MCL and will miss the remainder of the season and Slay suffered a concussion and while he has progressed through the protocol he has not been cleared as of the time of this writing. If Slay misses the game the Eagles will most likely lean on Avonte Maddox to cover All-Pro WR DeAndre Hopkins which is not good news for the Eagles. Last time the Maddox was asked to cover an All-Pro he was absolutely torched by Davante Adams. Hopkins is also questionable for the game, but is trending towards playing.Eagles DC Jim Schwartz will need to get creative with his coverages and hope his front four can continue to wreak havoc like they did last week where Hill was under constant pressure. If given time, Murray will cut up this secondary and have some big plays against the Eagles backups.
Jalen Hurts and Doug Pederson vs Vance Joseph
Cardinals’ defensive coordinator Vance Joseph will have the job of stopping the Eagles rookie QB who ran all over the Saints number one ranked defense last week. Doug Pederson said earlier this week that the Eagles simply shot themselves in the foot in the second half against the Saints, but rewatching the game it looks like the Saints made some adjustments at halftime that were effective in slowing down and confusing the rookie QB. Unlike the Saints, Joseph will have a full game tape to review and prepare for Hurts. Of course, Pederson and Eagles know what they put out on film too and will have to adjust to how they played in the second half against the Saints. It’ll be up to them to have a counterpunch ready to go depending on how the Cardinals play the rookie quarterback. Hurts was far more effective with his legs than his arm against the Saints, so I would not be surprised to see Joseph put a spy on Hurts to limit his ability to run. If the Cardinals do spy him, it will most likely go to former Eagles Jordan Hicks who is extremely athletic for an LB and should be able to match Hurts speed and athleticism. With the spy that’s one less player in coverage, which should open some up some things in the passing game if Hurts can take advantage of it. The Eagles have a lot of offensive coaches on the staff and it is their job to put him in the best position to be successful, but that is something they have failed to do with a number of guys on the offense this year, so it remains to see if they can do it with Hurts when the other team is gameplanning for him. If they can and that is a big IF Hurts will still need to execute and continue to show the same poise he did last weekend.

[Game Preview] Week 8 - Philadelphia Eagles(2-4-1) vs Dallas Cowboys (2-5)

Philadelphia Eagles (2-4-1) vs Dallas Cowboys (2-5)
Sunday Night Football will host the most popular match in its history as the Dallas Cowboys will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles on Prime Time Sunday Night. It will be the 15th Sunday Night meeting between the clubs. The match up however is far from what it was on paper before the season started. Both teams are dealing with injuries all over the field with Dallas dealing with the biggest injury after losing Dak Prescott for the season with a fracture and dislocated ankle. The Cowboys will also be without Andy Dalton who is still in the league’s concussion protocol after an extremely dirty hit by Washington’s Jon Bostic last week. The Eagles are coming off their first division win and getting healthier as rookie WR Jalen Raegor will return to the lineup Sunday Night and give Wentz another speedy threat in the receiving corps just as he is finding rhyme with his other speedy rookie John Hightower. If Wentz can get the passing game, the Eagles should have no problem putting up points against the porous Dallas defense. Even if Eagles RB Miles Sanders can’t go, the Eagles should still be able to move the ball on the ground with Boston Scott and Corey Clement as the Cowboys have the last ranked run defense in the league giving up 178 yards per game on the ground. For Cowboys they will see what they have in 3rd string QB Ben DiNucci. Schwartz will most likely look to pressure the young QB and rattle him into making mistakes. However, if DiNucci can stand in there and avoid the pressure he still has a number of dangerous targets who have the ability to gash the Eagles defense which has been weak this season. The Eagles are heavily favored, but this is an NFCE matchup on a national stage, so we can most likely expect a sloppy game with turnovers that ends closer than it should. Go Birds!

Eagles 17 - Cowboys 9
This was the game Wentz needed to win, his spirit growing after the Eagles rallied on the final drive in two straight weeks to beat the Giants and Redskins and thrust themselves back into the playoff picture. He rallied the Eagles with a pep talk in the tunnel before they hit the field for perhaps the biggest game of the 26-year-old QB's career. Perhaps fueled by the emotional edict, Wentz came out connecting on almost every pass, and a maligned wide receiver group that suffered a season-long case of the drops suddenly made plays. The Eagles took a 17-3 lead when Wentz hit former college quarterback Greg Ward for 24 yards and Miles Sanders scored on a 1-yard run on the final play of the third quarter for a 17-3 lead. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys fought back and Dak had the Cowboys in position to tie the game when Sidney Jones broke up Dak’s 4th down pass to Michael Gallup and Jerry Jones exited the box with 1:15 on the clock as the Eagles prevented Dallas from clinching the division with the win.

Recap from Last Week’s Games.
Eagles - The Eagles faced off against the division rival Giants who were coming off their first win of the season and were looking for a 2nd for first year coach Joe Judge. The Eagles have moved to 2-4-1 on the season after rallying to defeat the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football, 22-21. After New York gave its best punch of the night -- a 97-yard touchdown drive headlined by Daniel Jones -- to go up 21-10 with just over six minutes to play, Philadelphia scored 12 unanswered points to earn the win. Carson Wentz led a 71-yard touchdown drive to give the Eagles the lead with just 40 seconds to play after connecting with running back Boston Scott on an 18-yard reception. Along with the comeback, he finished his night with 359 yards passing, two touchdowns and one interception while completing passes to eight different Eagles receivers. He also ran for 15 yards and a touchdown. As for the Giants, they mustered just 325 yards of offense and struggle to protect Daniel Jones throughout the contest
Cowboys - The situation went from bad to worse for the Cowboys, who had no answers for Washington's defense. After a goal-line stand on Washington's opening drive, a strip sack by Landon Collins on Andy Dalton led to an early Washington safety. Washington then marched down the field, extending their lead to 9-0 on a 12-yard touchdown run by Antonio Gibson. The Cowboys responded with their only points of the afternoon on a Greg Zuerlein field goal. However, Washington would score two more touchdowns in the second quarter to put the game out of reach for Dallas. With this loss, Dallas dropped to 2-5 on the season. Quarterback Andy Dalton would leave the game in the third quarter following a late hit by Washington linebacker Jon Bostic, who was subsequently ejected. Rookie quarterback Ben DiNucci would finish the game in place of Dalton, who was evaluated for a concussion.

Stats to Know
Gingers Under Pressure
Everybody knows there are some fantastical magical forces at play when it comes to redheads. They are a curious bunch. This week, we were almost set to witness the Battle of the Gingers in a matchup of piss-poor teams. Surely, the two were going to be under immense pressure to assert himself as the Supreme Ginger...and thus, we will be discussing the two under pressure, even though Andy is surely going to miss this coming game after a dirty hit to the head against the WFT. In 2020, a season demolishing both Dallas's and Philadelphia's Offensive Lines, not a single other NFL QB has been under pressure as much as Mr. Wentz (118 pressure dropbacks). His pressured dropback % is at least slightly better (36.9%), good for 9th-highest. He's also experienced the 6th-highest sack rate (23.7% of pressured dropbacks resulted in sacks) and the 7th-lowest Completion % when pressured (40.0%), 12th-lowest NFL Rating when pressured (51.0%), and 9th-lowest Adjusted Completion % (59.7%). Meanwhile, Sir Dalton in limited snaps thus far has done something spectacular - he has a 100.00% Adjusted Completion % when under pressure (8 completions on 17 attempts and 72 pressure dropbacks), which PFF defines as the % of aimed passes thrown on target (completions + drops / aimed). 8 completions for 58 yards and 1 TD, spectacular! While all 4 NFCE teams' Offensive Lines feature in the top-10 league wide for most pressures allowed, at least Dallas's per-snap Pass Block Efficiency rating is borderline top third, while the Eagles are 2nd-worst in both metrics. And here enters QB Ben DiNucci. Good luck. The question of Ginger Supremacy will have to wait for another day.
Matchups to Watch
Eagles Defensive Line vs what is left of the Cowboys Offensive line
This has been one of the premier matchups in football over the last few seasons, however it is a shell of what it once was due to injuries. The last few years the Cowboys had one of the best offensive lines in football, but they lost one of their best players in the offseason when Travis Fredrick retired for health reasons after missing 2018 with Guillain-Barré syndrome and returning to play last year. His replacement Joe Looney is currently on the IR and could return this week, though a more likely return date for him is week 9. The Cowboys are also missing starting RT La’el Collins who started the season on the IR for his hip, but later needed season ending surgery and All-Pro Tyron Smith recently underwent season ending neck surgery. Smith’s replacement Brandon Knight recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and landed on the IR. The Eagles DL which has been one of the strengths of the team this season should feast. Brandon Graham, who is tied for 3rd in the league with 6 sacks, is currently slated to go up against an undrafted rookie and Fletcher Cox is slated to go up against a rookie 4th round pick. This is one of the best DLs in the league vs one of the worst OLs. The Eagles DL need to take advantage of this matchup and pressure rookie QB Ben DiNucci into making mistakes.
Darius Slay vs Amari Cooper
These games are the reason the Eagles went out and acquired Slay this offseason. In four games since Amari Cooper has arrived in Dallas he has torched the Eagles secondary with 25 catches for 422 yards and 5 TDs. According to Mike Clay, Slay and Cooper have faced off twice before while Slay was in Detriot, first in 2015 where Slay covered Cooper on 20 of 27 routes limiting Cooper to 0 catches on 3 targets in the game. Slay faced Cooper against last season where he shadowed Cooper on 26 of his 30 routes limiting him to 3 catches on 8 targets for 38 yards. Both players are having great seasons as Cooper is on pace for 1300 yards, though most of those were with Dak Prescott in the lineup and Slay has been as advertised shutdown opposing number 1s on a weekly basis. If Slay can shut down Cooper it will limit DiNucci’s to Gallup and Lamb who are both also extremely explosive, but taking away one of those weapons for the rookie QB will be huge and could force him into mistakes on plays where Cooper is the first read.
Eagles Rushing Attack vs the Dallas “run defense”
Unfortunately for the Eagles, it looks like Miles Sanders will miss his second straight week with a sprained MCL, which I am sure he is bummed about because he could have had a huge day vs a run defense ranked dead last giving up 178.3 yards a game. Last week the Redskins had more rushing yards in the first half than they have all season vs Dallas and Redskins RB Antonio Gibson had a career day. With Sanders out the Eagles will rely on RBs Boston Scott and Corey Clement who have not had the same success as Sanders on the ground this season. Clement has not been the same since an injury in 2018 which caused him to miss most the season and the 5’8 Scott is more of a change of pace back, but both have speed and can catch the ball out of the backfield. If the Eagles get the run game going, I don’t see Dallas being able to stop this offense as the running game will set up play-action-pass and RPOs which have caused the Dallas secondary to bite this season and allow for big plays. This could be especially dangerous with the return of Jalen Raegor who can fly. Raegor who is always dangerous with the ball in his hands may see a couple of runs himself on a jet sweep or a toss play.

South Carolina at the Swamp - The Game Guide

Hello Friends,
Over in the Fg Discord this season we have put together a game guide each week where each day we look a little deeper into the upcoming matchup. It begins with a short recap of the prior game and moves forward from there. If you are not yet in the discord, please join us! We'd love to have you. We have daily discussions on recruiting, analysis, and most of the time we just hang out and chat Florida Gators.

Without further ado, the Game Guide. Let us know what you think and if you have any ideas or feedback, we'd love to hear it. Special thanks to Chitowngator and Eric-UF for their contributions this week.
Week 1 Recap
Week 4 of Football, Week 1 of SEC play had the Gators kicking off against Ole Miss in the Grove. Your Florida Gators took care of business with a final score of 51-35. Coming into the game Oddsshark, had the line for this game at -13.5, with an estimated scoreline of Florida 41.5 - 23.6 Ole Miss. Turns out that was pretty close, although if you bet on the "over" you'd be a definite winner. This game was nearly a shootout due to "lack of availability" for the Gators on defense for several key players, including an early game ejection of starting safety Shawn Davis. Other notable absences were Stewart and Campbell. Ole Miss came out quick early and Lane Kiffin showed he had a few tricks up his sleeve. Even these tricks were no match for the dueling Kyles of the Gators, who lit up Ole Miss like a Christmas candle. Don't you love fall? The Gators were never in any real danger, however, and played multiple freshmen throughout the game, getting valuable experience on key targets such as Bogle, Whittemore, and more.
The Gators were rewarded for their effort Sunday by a #3 ranking in both the AP and Coaches Poll, seeing Georgia and Oklahoma fall in the poll.
Stat leaders were as follows:
Passing: Kyle Trask - 30/42 - 416 Yards - 9.9 AVG - 6:0 TD:Int - 93.4 QBR Rushing: Kadarius Toney - 2 Carries for 55 Yards - 27.5 AVG - Long of 50, Dameon Pierce - 9 Carries for 54 Yards - 6.0 AVG., Malik Davis - 7 Carries for 49 Yards - 7.0 AVG.
Note: On throws 20+ yards downfield, Kyle Trask went 4 for 5, 126 Yards, and 4 TDs. It was an explosive night for anyone named "Kyle".
Defensively, here's some stats of note:
Ventrell Miller - 15 Tackles (13 solo), 1 Sack, 2 TFL Brenton Cox - 8 Tackles (4 solo), 1 Sack, 2.5 TFL 1 Interception - Gervon Dexter - Forced by Brenton Cox
Team Stats:
3rd Down Efficiency - UF: 6 for 10. Ole Miss: 9 for 14 (0-1 on 4th Down) Penalties - 4 for 40 yards. Time of Possession - 33:29 UF to 26:31 Ole Miss Total Yards: UF - 642, Ole Miss - 613 Total Rushing: 29 Carries for 196 Yards - Good for 6.8 Yards per Rushing Total Passing: 31 for 45 for 446 Yards - Good for 9.9 Yards per Pass.
The FG Discord Mod team has selected a few players from the game as their "Player of the Game". They are as follows:
Zlat: To avoid spoiling the podcast, this selection has been redacted, and will be updated at podcast release Stev: Offensively, my pick has to be Trask. It was always going to be Trask or Pitts but they are two sides of the same coin. Does one have as much success without the other? Defensively, I have to go with Cox. He played up to the expectation of the #1 Jersey to me and my pick reflects it as such. Chitown: "Defense - Ventrell Miller was a dominating force and added a sack as well. He helped anchor down a few of our bigger defensive stops. Most improved player - KT. Seemed to have dedicated himself to learning routes and looked much more complete than his previous plays. Can actually play a vital role in the offense instead of being used in gadget-type plays." Toph:To avoid spoiling the podcast, this selection has been redacted, and will be updated at podcast release
Matchup Preview
This week, the Gators host South Carolina who are coming off a defeat to Tennesee 31-27. Tennessee almost blew a 2-TD lead but Gamecocks weren't able to close it out. Will South Carolina have a rebound, or a slump?
Some stats of note
South Carolina is dealing with a QB situation, much like other teams in the SEC.. They started Colin Hill, a journeyman Senior who was pedestrian at best. He put up a statline of 25 for 39, 290 Yards - 7.4 AVG 1:1 TD-Int ratio and a QBR of 51.1 His rushing stats were far less impressive due to 4 sacks given up.
On the receiving end, though, Senior Shi Smith had himself a night with 10 receptions for 140 yards and a TD. He could have a similar game to Elijah Moore if the UF DB's don't figure out the gameplan quickly.
South Carolina struggled heavily to run the ball against the Tennesee DL. The team only put up 89 rushing yards with a 2.5 AVG and a long of 13. They were able, however, to punch it in from close twice for 2 TDs.
The matchup has opened as high as -22.5 Florida on some sites but has settled down to -19.5 according to Oddsshark. What are your key things to look for in this game? I would watch the Defensive adjustments to see how they handle a lesser offense. There's a good chance Ole Miss was the best offense we'll face all season. Will the younger DBs pickup the scheme? Will we stunt more on the DL?
There's no doubt the offense will continue to fly high and have success with the attention Kyle Pitts commands. What are your predictions? Personally, I'm guessing 41-17.
Today's write-up on players to watch provided by chitowngator USCjr Names to Watch Out For
Offense
QB - Collin Hill (Grad Transfer)* Stephen Garcia Collin Hill is a graduate transfer that arrived at USCjr from Colorado State, following over the Cocks' new Offensive Coordinator, Mike Bobo. Beating out last year's starter, Ryan Hilinski, Hill previously was the starter at CSU, before getting injured 3 games into the 2019 campaign with his 3rd ACL tear. Against Tennessee, he threw for 290 yards with a 64% completion rate, tacking on a touchdown and a tipped pass that resulted in a pick-six.
Look for Hill to stretch the defense North/South and attack the middle of the field, especially after the tape we put against Ole Miss. Against Rocky Top, Hill had 5 completions over 20 yards, including 3 to Shi Smith.
WR - Shi Smith (Senior
To say Shi Smith was USCjr's offense on Saturday is an understatement. Smith caught 13 of the 25 total completed passes for a whopping 140 yards, including a 29 yard touchdown.
After losing Bryan Edwards to the NFL, Smith is the only returning receiver at South Carolina with any meaningful offensive production (43 receptions, 489 yards). Look for Mike Bobo to use Smith's breakaway speed to beat Florida over the top, like Exhibit A(Fade route, man-to-man coverage), Exhibit B(skinny post into double coverage), and Exhibit C(post route)
RB - Kevin Harris (Sophomore)
Following the departures of seniors Rico Dowdle and Tavien Feaster, Harris is stepping in to replace the highly-touted freshman RB Marshawn Lloyd, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear in late August. Harris is a physical runner who won't hesitate to try and bowl over an opponent. Harris received the majority of the carries against Tennessee, rushing for 55 yards on 13 carries, and adding a touchdown.
You can also expect to see additional carries split between Deshaun Fenwick and Zaquandre White, as this running back by committee approach combined for 26 of USC's 31 rushing attempts, amassing 105 yards in the process.
Defense
CB - Israel Mukuamu (Junior)
Mukuamu's breakout moment came last year in USCjr's victory over UGA, where he picked off Jake Fromm 3 times, including this beauty of a pick-six, where Mukuamu made Fromm look like the giant baby that he really is.
Last weekend, Mukuamu experienced a groin injury, forcing him out of the game in the second half against Tennessee. While South Carolina returns a relatively experienced secondary in Jaycee Horn (CB, Jr), RJ Roderick (S, Jr), and Jammie Robinson (CB, So, 2019 SEC All-Freshman), they lack depth as corner Cam Smith (RS-Fr) replaced him.
DT - Kingsley (JJ) Enagbare (Junior)
Enagbare was easily the defensive player of the game against Tennessee. In the contest, he had 9 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss, including 2 sacks and a forced fumble. As he worked more snaps than any of USC's other defensive tackles, expect him to step up to take the place of 1st round draft pick, Javon Kinlaw. Here's a video of him putting the lockdown on GuantanamoBay last weekend to force the Vols to punt.
You can also expect contributions from Keir Thomas (DT, RS-Sr), Aaron Sterling(DE, Sr), as well as highly ranked 5* underclassmen Zacch Pickens (DT, So), and Jordan Burch (DE, Fr).
Talent/Position Group Comparison
Thanks to our friend Eric-UF, we've gotten a talent comparison (as seen on the sub in prior seasons) of the upcoming matchup for South Carolina. Today, we'll just look at one position group vs. one poisition group. As a recap, the talent ratings are adjusted to account for experience from a freshmen to senior level. The Raw ratings are not.
As many saw and have debated about in length since last week's game, our defense struggled a bit against the Ole Miss up-tempo offense and a scrambling QB. The good news is Collin Hill shouldn't be running on us like Corral did. The bad news is that he's not a terrible quarterback. He's no Drew Lock, though. He's pretty pedestrian but he does have the experience, as he's a senior and has been in college football long enough to be average.
As seen here
Our DBs are at an adjusted 0.861 talent level compared to a 0.908 raw, which means we are very young in the defensive back field. South Carolina's receivers are boasting a 0.901 raw, 0.841 adjusted. Just like us, they have talent receivers who just need a bit more time in college football. We spoke earlier about Shi Smith - He's the dangerous one.
This comes out to be a Draw, or if nothing else a very slight Florida edge for the Florida DB's. This should be a fantastic learning experience against an SEC opponent for our young backfield.

[Game Preview] Week 3 - Indianapolis Colts(1-1) at Philadelphia Eagles(1-1)

Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) vs. Indianapolis Colts (1-1)
After being handed their first loss since winning the Super Bowl, the prodigal son, Carson Wentz, returns to the lineup as the Eagles head back to the friendly confines of Lincoln Financial Field to face the Indianapolis Colts. The Linc has been kind to the Eagles of late, as they have won each of their last 3 home games and 12 of its last 13 dating back to Week 16 of 2016, with the only loss coming in a throw away game in the 2017 season finale where the Eagles rest multiple starters. Wentz will be missing some key weapons on offense with Alshon Jeffery, Jay Ajayi, Darren Sproles and Mack Hollins all slated to miss the game as well as Mike Wallace who landed on the IR last week with a broken fibula. He will get a weapon back though with the return of Jordan Matthews to Philadelphia, who signed with the team Wednesday morning. The Eagles will see a familiar face on the Colts sideline, where last years Super Champion OC Frank Reich will attempt to steer the Colts to victory. The Colts looked good last week as they dispatched Eagles' division rival Redskins 21-9. Andrew Luck looks to be returning to Pro Bowl form in Frank Reich's offense where he had 3 TDs last week. The Eagles secondary was torched by Ryan Fitzpatrick last week, so I am sure Luck and the Colts WRs especially Pro Bowler TY Hilton are salivating to get theirs as well. The secondary needs to play better or it could be another long day. A key will be the pass rush, if the Eagles can get pressure on Luck early and often it could go a long way in helping the beleaguered secondary improve their 28th pass defense ranking. On the other side of the ball the Eagles will look to improve from last week, which doesn't look like it will be easy. The Colts look like they found a stud in the 2018 draft on defense with reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Week Darius Leonard. However, if Wentz can return to form and pick up where he left off before his injury last year he should be able to lead the team to victory. It won't be easy with so many key pieces missing on the offense, but as Pederson has proved in the past he is always able to find matchups to exploit even without the optimal lineup at his disposal due to injuries. If nothing else it should be a great game between two great QBs and two great coaches.

Recap from Last Week’s Games.
Eagles - Video – The Eagles were already shorthanded missing starting QB Carson Wentz, WR Alshon Jeffery and RB Darren Sproles when they lost Jason Peters and Jay Ajayi on the opening offensive series. The missing pieces proved to be key against the high powered Buccaneers defense. Ryan Fitzpatrick hit Desean Jackson right off the bat for a 75 yard score, which was a sign for the rest of the day. Fitzpatrick torched the Philadelphia secondary for 402 yards and 4 TDs. The Bucs were able to hold off a late push by the Eagles with Ajayi returning in the second half to add an Eagles score and Foles connected with Agholor late. But it wasn't enough as the Bucs gave the defending champs their first loss.
Colts - Video – In his second game in Frank Reich's offense, Andrew luck moved the ball down field and found Eric Ebron for a TD on the opening drive. The Colts remained balanced throughout the day keeping the Redskins off honest with a balanced offensive attack of 27 rushing and 31 passing attempts. The balance didn't keep the Colts perfect however as Luck threw two picks, but he was pefect when it mattered executing as game sealing drive in the 4th quarter to give the Colts their first win and helped them avoid their first 0-2 start since 2013. On the defensive side of the ball Colts rookie LB Darius Leonard was a disruptive in both the run and pass with a game high 18 tackles including an Alex Smith sack and forced a key Jordan Reed fumble to seal it for the Colts.

The Eagles have produced a 5-5 home record against the Colts, including a 1-0 mark at Lincoln Financial Field. The last time the two clubs played in Philadelphia was on 11/7/10, when the Eagles captured a 26-24 victory.
Including playoffs, Philadelphia is 16-3 (.842) in its last 19 games, as well as 19-4 (.826) in its last 23 overall.
Philadelphia finished the 2017 season with a 6-2 record in away games, which was their best regular-season total on the road since 2013 (also 6-2).
The Eagles’ 16-3 record since Week 3 of 2017 marks their best 19-game stretch since 12/15/03-12/19/04 (also 16-3). The last time Philadelphia won 19+ games over a 23-game stretch was 11/23/03-12/27/04 (also 19-4).
Since 2016, Philadelphia owns a 16-3 record at Lincoln Financial Field (including playoffs), marking the best home winning percentage (.842) in the NFL in that span.
Including playoffs, the Eagles have won each of their last 3 home games. Overall, Philadelphia has won 12 of its last 13 home games dating back to Week 16 of 2016, with their only loss coming in the 2017 season finale vs. Dallas.

The Eagles’ 6 consecutive wins vs. the AFC South marks their longest active winning streak against any NFL division. The last time Philadelphia won 6+ straight games against any NFL divison was vs. the NFC East from 2016-17 (7).
Carson Wentz will make his first start since sustaining a season-ending knee injury in Week 14 of 2017. In 2017, Wentz earned second-team All-Pro honors, was named to his first-career Pro Bowl and finished 3rd in MVP voting after leading the Eagles to an 11-2 record in games that he started and throwing a franchise-record 33 TDs.
In Week 2 at Tampa Bay, Zach Ertz led the Eagles in both receptions (11) and receiving yards (94), recording his team-record 6th-career game with 10+ catches. Ertz’s 6 career games with 10+ receptions lead all NFL TEs since he entered the league in 2013.
Nelson Agholor has caught 8+ passes in each of his last 3 games (including a career-high 9 in Super Bowl LII), joining Ertz as the only Eagles to ever accomplish that feat.
Fletcher Cox leads the team with 2.5 sacks this season, which are the most by an Eagles defensive tackle through 2 games since Cullen Jenkins in 2011 (3.0).

Carson Wentz vs the Colts Defense
Last time Wentz stepped on to a football field in game action was when he threw a touchdown pass on a torn ACL to Alshon Jeffery 9 months ago and he has been chomping at the bit to get back on the field after watching his team with a Super Bowl with him on the sideline. Wentz will get his shot this week against a Colts defense that still has some holes in it particular on the DL. Wentz's return won't be easy as he will be missing key pieces on offense including WRs Alshon Jeffery and Mike Wallace as well as RBs Darren Sproles and Jay Ajayi. He will still have his favorite target in TE Zach Ertz and Ertz's protege rookie Dallas Goedert. Wentz utilized the TEs heavily last season as they accounted for 14 of the Eagles passing TDs last season. Look for some two TE sets to them to get involved early, after Goedert has been invisible for the first two games with Foles throwing the football. Carson will also have a familiar face to throw in Jordan Matthews, who re-signed with the team this week and was second on the team in receiving yards Wentz's rookie season. Doug will look to get Wentz going early, so don't be surprised to see some big throws on the first drive especially to the speedy Nelson Agholor in the slot who had a break out year last season. Wentz is what makes this offense go and is a special player, him returning to form before the injury will big in getting a second W.
The Colts Passing attack vs the Eagles Pass Defense
Ryan Fitzpatrick feasted on the Eagles defense last week throwing for 402 yards and 4 TDs in the Bucs win over the Eagles. The Eagles secondary gave up not one, but two 75 TDs passes, as well as key receptions throughout the game. The Colts don't have the same number of weapons the Buccaneers do, but like the Bucs, they have a talented TE in Eric Ebron and a speedy WR in TY Hilton. Hilton led the league in receiving yards in 2016 and has averaged 1200 yards over the past four seasons. The Eagles will need to know where Hilton is on the field at all times or it could be a long day for the secondary which is already ranked 28th against pass. The Eagles won't see Ryan Fitzpatrick this week, but they do face Andrew Luck who when he is on is more consistent and talented than Fitzpatrick. Luck is a three time Pro Bowler, who is trying to comeback from an injury of his own, which forced him to miss nearly all of the 2017 season. Luck has made some errant throws in the first two games, but has been money when it counted as the Colts own the best 3rd down % in the league at 61%. The Eagles secondary will need contain this offense and can't give the big cushions they gave to the Bucs WRs that allowed them to easily convert 3rd downs and negated the pass rush that is the strength of the Eagles defense. If the secondary get hold their men long enough for the pass rush to be effective it could be a long day for Luck.
Eagles OL vs. Colts Front Seven
The Colts had one of the worst pass rushes in the NFL in 2017. They had just 25 sacks on the season, which was second-worst in the NFL, behind only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs investing heavily to correct that issue, but the Colts could only do so much in one offseason and holes all over their roster. The Colts return a DL very similar to last year that with a few minor additions and 2nd round pick Kemoko Turay. The Colts pass rush does look better this season, but it is still a match up the Eagles should win. All-Pro Jason Peters is returning this week after leaving last game during the opening series. The Bodyguard and crew will look to keep Carson Wentz clean in his first game back. Winning this matchup will be huge to ensure Wentz has time to find his receivers down field. The OL will also look to open holes for the Eagles shorthanded running attack that will be missing both Darren Sproles and Jay Ajayi. Pederson likes to stay balanced, so getting Clement and Smallwood will be important.
Eagles DL vs. Colts OL
The Eagles currently own the number one ranked rush defense allowing just 58.5 yards per game, while the Colts are just 24th in rushing offense. The Eagles should be able to limit the run heavily, but they will need to get pressure on Luck as well. The Eagles DL is 9th in sacks with 6 through two games, but they will need to get more pressure this week to limit Andrew Luck in the passing game. Luck has been sacked just three times through the first two games, something Fletcher Cox who leads the Eagles in sacks this season would like to change. Cox has at least 1 sack in each of the first two games and wants to continue that trend in his quest for DPOY this season. Next to Cox, Brandon Graham is still in pursuit of his first sack this season after leading the team last year in sacks with 9.5. Getting to the QB and winning in the trenches is what the Eagles defense is built on, if the DL can be wreak havoc on Sunday it should lead to a win for the Eagles.

[Game Preview] Week 2 - Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) at Kansas City Chiefs (1-0)

Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) at. Kansas City Chiefs (1-0)
The Philadelphia Eagles travel to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO, this Sunday for a battle between the mentor and the apprentice. Doug Pederson has been a QB, offensive quality control coordinator, QB coach and offensive coordinator under Andy Reid between his time with the Eagles and Chiefs, but this will be the first time he faces off against his former teacher. It will also be only the second time that the most winning coach in Eagles history faces off against his former team. Reid got the best of the Eagles last time in 26-16 win and his Chiefs are coming off a big win against the Patriots in Foxborough last Thursday. On the flip side, the Eagles are coming off a big win themselves as they threw a monkey off their back, beating a Redskins squad that had their number over the last few years.

Recap from Last Week’s Games.
Eagles VideoCarson Wentz was 26-29 for 307 yards and two touchdowns as the second-year quarterback guided the Philadelphia Eagles to a 30-17 victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday in a sloppy, mistake-filled season opener between the NFC East rivals. Wentz frustrated the Redskins defenders all day with his ability to avoid sacks and extend plays including a 56 TD pass to Nelson Agholor to put the Eagles on the board first. The Eagles struggled to run the ball throughout the game averaging just 2.4 yards per carry. However, the they were able to pull out a win with Wentz carrying the offense and an impressive performance by the defense where they caused 3 turnovers (2 FF, 1 INT) and 4 sacks. It wasn't pretty, but it was a hard fought division game that saw the Eagles come out on top.
Chiefs - Video - The Chiefs took on the defending Super Bowl Champions in week 1 and pulled off an impressive upset win over the defending champs. Rookie Kareem Hunt fumbled on his first NFL carry, but quickly forgot about it, as he scored three times and set an NFL mark Thursday night to open the NFL season. Hunt's 239 yards in his pro debut were a record since the 1970 merger. The Chiefs were just as good passing the football as Alex Smith was 28 for 35 for 368 yards with 4 TDs. He became the first quarterback with 300-plus yards, four TDs and no interceptions against coach Bill Belichick. The 42 points were the most the Patriots have allowed in Belichick's 17-plus seasons. The Chiefs defense held Brady in company in check most the night and Justin Houston looked healthy as he notched two sacks in the opener. The one down note on the night was the Chiefs lost All-Pro safety Eric Berry for the season with a torn Achilles tendon.

KC Week 1 Numbers That Matter

Of all RBs, Kareem Hunt had the highest elusive rating by a very wide margin. The Eagles must be sound in their tackling or they'll get gashed.
Player Atts Recs YACon/Att Rush Tks Avd Rec Tks Avd Elusive Rating
Kareem Hunt 17 5 4 7 1 145.5
Smith had 3rd highest average Time in Pocket, 4th highest Time to Throw, and highest Time to Sack. As a percentage of all dropbacks, Smith had 3rd highest at 2.6+ seconds. Looking at 2.6+ second dropbacks, he had the 3rd highest completion percentage and highest QB Rating. The Eagles' front four will have to get to Smith and get to him quickly. They did so last week against Washington, but if they can't this week, Smith could have a field day, especially since the Eagles secondary doesn't have anyone to match Tyreek Hill's speed.

Alex Smith 3.06 2.83 5.2 56.4 3 18 14 77.8 2 0 155.8
When targeting Hill, Smith had the highest QB rating of all QBs to their WRs. Hill also had the 4th best Yards Per Route Run for receivers and only dropped one catchable ball. How the Eagles will contain Tyreek Hill is the question on everybody's minds.

Matchups to Watch
Eagles Receivers vs. Chiefs Secondary
The Eagles passing offense had been inept the previous two years due to personnel and scheme but already looks more improved this season from the new additions. The Chiefs secondary features two 2016 All-Pros in Marcus Peters and Eric Berry, the latter suffering a season ending Achilles injury in week 1. The rest of their secondary is are solid players as well. The Eagles have the personnel to be able to take advantage of Eric Berry's absence even with Marcus Peters playing in this game. Peters is a ball hawk, notching 14 INTs in his first two seasons. Wentz must be aware of his ability to make a play on the ball. However, even if Berry's replacement, Daniel Sorensen, plays well it will be difficult match the impact Berry makes out on the football field.. He is a true difference maker. The Eagles must be able to take advantage of this opening in the first game without Berry.
Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce vs. the Eagles defense
The Chiefs feature two premier, explosive play makers for Quarterback Alex Smith to throw to. Everyone knows Hill is one of the fastest players in the NFL. Without Ronald Darby the Eagles don't have any one that can adequately account for his speed outside. However, Hill isn't only a deep threat; Andy uses Hill to spread defenses out on crosses, motions, jet sweeps, and they even line him up in the backfield, similar how the Eagles used Desean Jackson while he was in Philadelphia. He is a difficult match up for the Eagles. Travis Kelce is a top 5 tight end in the NFL and is a massive target for Smith to get the ball to. While he doesn't have great hands, once he does get the ball, he is tough to tackle. Basically the anti-Ertz. The Eagles will likely mix and match assignments on Kelce. The Eagles did a great job shutting down Jordan Reed last week, not that this will be any easier.
Kareem Hunt vs. the Eagles front 7
One of the keys to beating the Redskins last week was to shut down their run game to keep their offense in check. That task doesn't change this week as the Chiefs have Kareem Hunt, who is the latest breakout rookie running back. Hunt is coming off a week 1 performance that saw him rack up 246 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. Preventing Hunt from flexing his muscle will allow the Eagles defense to control the flow of the game and help them pressure Alex Smith, forcing him into poor decisions.
Kansas City Defensive Line vs. Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Line
Most fans are in agreement that the Eagles offensive line didn't have the cleanest game up front in the win against Washington. The offensive line is going to have to improve in order to help the offense play well in a difficult environment. The Chiefs feature two talented pass rushers off the edge in Dee Ford and Justin Houston. Houston had a 22 sack season in 2014 while Ford had 10 sacks last year in his breakout season. Houston has had to deal with his share of injuries that last two seasons but after his play last week, I think it is safe to say he is back to the form we expect from him. With Berry out for the season, these two players can make a huge difference for the Chiefs as they push forward without him. It's also worthy to note the last time the Eagles played the Chiefs in 2013 Justin Houston had 4.5 sacks. Lane Johnson was probably inspired to juice after that beat down. He's no longer a rookie, but it will still be a tough test for him. Controlling the Kansas City front in the run and passing game could make the difference between winning and losing.
Philadelphia Eagles Special Teams vs. Kansas City Chiefs Special Teams
The game also features two of the best special teams units in the NFL. Per Rick Gosselin, the Eagles and Chiefs fielded the 1st and 3rd place Special Teams units in 2016, respectively. It is no surprise given the emphasis both teams place on their units with the excellent coaches they have in place. There are a couple areas to watch in this game. The Chiefs ranked 1st in punt return average last season. This is no surprise given how good Tyreek Hill was. The Eagles ranked first in both kickoff starting point and opponent kick off starting point last season. The Eagles we consistently able start and limit their opponents starting field positions, which should be a huge factor in this game. Both teams are able to score on special teams which only adds to the excitement. Lastly, the Eagles just placed placekicker Caleb Sturgis on IR. Earlier this week, the Eagles signed rookie placekicker Jake Elliott off the Bengals practice squad. Elliott was a 5th round pick of the Bengals this past draft. Elliott did not miss a kick in college from inside 30 yards en route to breaking Stephen Gostkowski's school record for field goals. He has the ability to be a kicker full time in the NFL but this is a tough environment to walk into for a rookie in his first game. Hopefully he won't be a deciding factor.
