Guess the Company #3 (ticker trivia / due diligence)

Previously on Guess the Company
Hi fellow kids, I'm back again today with yet another DD where I reveal the ticker at the end rather than the beginning.
Let's see how many clues it takes for you to correctly guess today's company:
-This company's Q2 2020 revenues dropped 98% compared to a year ago, and its quarterly EPS plunged from $1.24 in Q2 2019 to a loss of ($1.07) in Q2 2020.
-Despite these revenue numbers, shareholders were barely fazed and the stock continued to trade sideways between $40-$50 from June to November 2020
-If you bought $10000 of this stock at its all time low in March 2009, you would be receiving about twice that much in annual dividends up until it was suspended in Q2 2020 due to the pandemic
-As part of the terms of a $1.5 billion credit facility, this company is not permitted to pay dividend until Q4 2021 unless it can maintain a $1 billion+ liquidity after paying the dividend.
-During the height of the financial crisis in 09, this company was reportedly losing $1000 per *second*
-When this company was about to go bankrupt, its owner dug into his own pockets and loaned the company $1 billion
-Before his company's stocks took a nosedive in 2008, the owner of this company was briefly the 3rd richest person in the USA behind only Bill Gates and Warren Buffet
-Although this company is based in Paradise, NV, the majority of its revenues comes from China. More specifically, Macau, China.
-In 2010 this company built a $6.88 billion resort in Singapore, billed the world's "most expensive standalone casino property"
-With annual revenues of $14 billion, this company is the largest casino operator in the world by market capitalization
Have you made your guess yet?
If your guess was LVS , you are correct!
Outlook for LVS: There are speculations that LVS might sell its Las Vegas Strip properties to a REIT and then lease them back, a move that would raise about $6 billion and allow it to further focus its efforts in Asia where most of its revenues come from. Although my outlook for LVS is bullish, I expect this stock to trade mostly sideways until later this year or early 2022 when it resumes paying dividends to shareholders. OPTAP: $75

To Daisy, the goodest dog ever

I’m so, so sorry. I only meant to give you a treat when I put the steak scraps in your bowl. You’re so well mannered- that’s the only way you’ll eat human food!
The vet says it’s pancreatitis and I should put you down. You’re fourteen after all.
I’m not an idiot. Pancreatitis is brought on by rich foods. I was only trying to make you happy, and it seems I killed you in the process.
I don’t know how I’ll manage without you. You were mine from the first. My lovely grandparents gave you to me as a gift. The Golden Retriever next door had taken up with the Irish settelab mix down the road, and that’s how you came to be.
When I took you home, eight weeks old, you could fit into my cupped hands. I know what everyone says about allowing your kid a pet if they’ll take care of it. That they won’t. But I did. Everything, even though I was twelve. You cried so much that I slept in your crate with you the first two nights you were home.
I didn’t have any friends until I was about fourteen, nor anywhere to go, because mom was driving my brother all over the country for sports and Dad was “the lump on the couch with the checkbook.” Just you and I, all the time. Even though Dad was usually passive, he could fly into unpredictable rages several times a year. Mom would just yell and take and take and take things from me for months at a time, until it got to the point where I had nothing to do at all! So I covered up for you. Cleaned all your messes and hid the evidence, spent hours every day training you. A month later, you already knew “sit” “stay” “down” and “come,” then quickly learned “no” “quiet” “shake” and a stupid pet trick where I would balance a treat on your nose and you wouldn’t eat it until I said, “okay.”
I kept you with me 24/7 whenever I wasn’t in school. I was afraid my dad would hurt you or my mom would yank you away like my other “privileges.” When I cried, you would comfort me. You always listen.
This kept on until you were four. Mostly, things were okay. I kept you safe. When things got hairy, I covered your ears so you wouldn’t be afraid. My dad was a social worker. He knew not to hit his kids, that’s reportable, but nothing was said about pets. Maybe three or four times a year, if either of us really messed up (read: chewed something, got a B+, “talked back,” he would try to hurt you instead of me. I never let him. I would wrap myself around you and refuse to let go, which goaded him. I took your kicks and hits, and afterwards, in my room, you would sit with your head in my lap and nudge me under the arm over and over until I laughed and petted you again. You would run to greet me every afternoon after you graduated from crating during the day, and my best friend and I would walk you together. You see, a German Shepard mauled her when she was two. She was afraid. But you were so calm and friendly that even though she never held you, she could be persuaded to pat you hello and throw the ball.
But after all that, the carefully stacked house of cards toppled. My parents found out that I was cutting myself, and the reaction was to yell at me about how I was being dramatic and lying and just manipulating people. They wouldn’t find anyone to help me.
I guess, though, we had a lucky break. You see, it was my best friend who first figured out what was going on, and your family basically offered me a home and help with deciding what I should do about the fact that I was cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.
I said, “Thanks. But not without Daisy.” This was a big deal in the first gen immigrant culture of theirs who viewed dogs as bad and dirty. But I was so insistent, and you were so well-behaved, that you came too. I’m sorry they made you sleep in the garage and didn’t pet you, but at least we were safe. You saved me as much as anything else, but I was so scared to let you out of my sight in case someone hurt you! So you were by my side for nearly every appointment and therapy session. You let me hug you any time, even though I know now that dogs don’t like hugs.
I even got you certified as a service dog for my anxiety before I went off to college! There was nowhere to go for you, but I had to live on campus as a freshman. So I combed the rules early on, found the service dog exception, and trained you to bring my cell phone and sit on top of me when I panicked.
As soon as I had that wrapped up, I never let you out of my sight again. Not in the dorm, the classroom, or even the factory where I worked two summers! A dog wearing ear protection was a really silly sight, but you weren’t trouble. I made a big box for you out of cardboard scrap, and you just slept or chewed toys in it all day.
When I didn’t know about my future and got depressed when I was twenty, you kept me alive. I knew there was no one else who would take care of you. So I had to live, so you could.
Then I decided to go to grad school, which was in a large city not far from my hometown. Since I was already familiar with it and public transit was great, we went absolutely everywhere! Gyms, cafes, malls, hiking, bars, trivia night, parties...Some nights after a few too many, you almost walked me home. I remember during the same sex marriage debate, some guys wanted to hurt me because I was wearing a pro-LGBT t-shirt. You growled and bayed so ferociously that they tore off yelling, “what is that THING?”
I got married when I was 23. It was a tiny ceremony. I trained you to carry the rings to me! You were eleven but still going strong. We went to Las Vegas for the honeymoon. I didn’t know if you could handle the strip and the casinos, but I swear you did a better job than I did! I had fun, but it was so much sensory overload.
Last year, we went to Hawaii for two weeks. You couldn’t do everything but by god, you tried! On that snorkeling trip, you jumped off the side of the boat and swam next to me, snapping your teeth at the fish and turtles. My fault really. I didn’t tell you to “stay” on the boat. I thought that was obvious, don’t go splashing off into the hundred food deep Pacific after me! You sat under our table as we ate fresh coconut, mahi-mahi, and loco moco. When the tsunami sirens went off and I flipped out- I thought it was a missile attack like that false alarm- you sat in my lap even though you’re way too big, then ran off to find a person to help me. The housekeeper at the hotel who followed you back to me nearly fell over laughing after she explained no nuclear Armageddon was coming. I mean, that night after a mai tai, I laughed too.
And now I can hear you crying and whining, but your tail still thumps against the floor when I pet you. I know what I have to do. You were the best.
I know I need to end your pain, but I don’t know what to do without you. I haven’t been without you in so long, I almost forgot what it’s like.

Nazwy Stanów i Miast w USA / Names of states and cities in the USA

Some time ago I've noticed someone complain that there are only beginner level posts here. Let's try to change it. I'm a native speaker, so if something is not clear, let me know in the comments.
Let's start with USA - Stany Zjednoczone or just Stany

Translation

In polish, some state names are translated, and some not - theese are written the same as in english, but pronounced in a different way. The pronunciation of the latter ones is a bit more sharp, more polish.
Translated:
Washington - Waszyngton North Dakota - Dakota Północna South Dakota - Dakota Południowa New York - Nowy Jork Pensylvania - Pensylwania California - Kalifornia Colorado - Kolorado West Virginia - Wirginia Zachodnia. Uwaga: 'g' zwykle czytamy 'dż' Virgninia - see above New Mexico - Nowy Meksyk North Carolina - Karolina Północna South Carolina - Karolina Południowa Texas - Teksas Louisiana - Luizjana Florida - Floryda Hawaii - Hawaje
You may have noticed that adjectives are translated. Note that New Hampshire, Rhode Island and New Jersey is an exception, and the names are the same as in english.
DC is an exception in the States itself, and so is in polish - Dystrykt Kolumbii:
The white house is not in any state, it's in DC - Biały Dom nie znajduje się w żadnym stanie, tylko w Dystrykcie Kolumbii.

Declension

Some of the state names are declined (odmienione przez przypadki), for example:
I live in Minnesota - Mieszkam w Minnesocie I've never been to Texas - Nigdy nie byłem/am w Teksasie
But some are not:
The Four Corners Monument is in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona - Pomnik Four Corners znajduje się w Utah, Kolorado, Nowym Meksyku i Arizonie.
My cousin lives in Wyoming - Mój kuzyn mieszka w Wyoming.
You can also address a state with english "State of X" phrase. This is commonly used when referring to a state without a polish name. The state name does not decline, the noun "Stan" does:
State of Iowa - Stan Iowa State of California - Stan Kalifornia My sister lives in the State of Maine - Moja siostra mieszka w stanie Maine.
States that names are translated always decline. Apart from that, states with names that end in a suffix, that is found in polish vocabulary (like Nevada, Montana, Minnesota, Indiana, Oklahoma, Arizona, Alabama, Alaska) decline like common words with that suffix. This is commonly found in spoken language, from my experience. You can use the "State of X" phrase mentioned above to get around that ;)
Arizona - Arizony - Arizonie - Arizonę - Arizoną - O Arizonie - Arizono! Minnesota - Minnesoty - Minnesocie - Minnesotę - Minnesotą - O Minnesocie - Minnesoto! etc.
Prepositions to use with state names vary, and in most cases its 'in' (w):
W stanie Iowa, w Kolorado, W Arizonie, W Maine, W Vermont, W Minnesocie, W Alabamie.
But in case of islands or peninsulas, 'on' is used (na) [1]:
Na Florydzie, Na Hawajach, Na Alasce.
The Yellowstone park is in Colorado - Park Yellowstone znajduje się w Kolorado.
They arrested a guy in Florida for having a pet alligator - Na Florydzie aresztowali faceta za posiadanie aligatora.
My neighbor went on vacation to Hawaii - Mój sąsiad pojechał na wakacje na Hawaje
The US short codes for states (IA, RI, VT, AZ, AK, ...) aren't used at all here. People might be confused if you use them.

Cities

The same goes for cities. Some are translated, some are decline, some are both, and some are neither. The rules are generally the same as with state names.
New York - Nowy Jork Washington - Waszyngton New Orleans - Nowy Orlean Philadelphia - Filadelfia
Cities with 'city' in the name aren't translated, nor decline. The only exception that comes to my mind is Atlanta - I've heard people decline it.
Las Vegas is known for it's casinos. - Las Vegas znane jest z kasyn.
Times Square is New York's most known tourist attraction - Times Square to najbardziej znana atrakcja turystyczna Nowego Jorku
We took a hike from Nashville to Memphis. - Przejechaliśmy autostopem z Nashville do Memphis [2].
Wall Street is on Manhattan - Wall Street znajduje się na Manhattanie [3].

Footnotes

1 - I have no idea if its the case for Rhode Island as well. It's not, it's 'w Rhode Island' 2 - Memphis in the USA is written with 'ph'. Memfis is a place in Egypt. 3 - As a piece of trivia, ,,Manhattan'' is also a slang name for a district of Łódź, but that name is really specific to Łódź only.

Just want to brag for a second if that's okay. My favorite part about doing all these Observer posts is how much I've learned from reading them. Last night, it paid off as I participated in a Royal Rumble-style wrestling trivia competition at a bar here in Memphis and ended up beating 34 other people to win. And I owe it all to His Holiness, Lord Meltzer, praise be to the most high. Thanks Dave! (Also, shouts out to the guy at trivia who chose "Hepatitis O'Neil" as his gimmick name. Oh, how I laughed...)
  • Preliminary numbers for Halloween Havoc show the PPV buyrate to be around 0.95 which is absolutely disastrous. WCW had been openly predicting that the show would do nearly double of what Bash at the Beach did and instead, it actually did less. Considering all the money they put into promoting this show, plus retiring Ric Flair, it's bad news all around.
  • Hogan is currently negotiating extending his WCW contract but it's thought that he's angling for full, complete control of the company to stay, and at the very least, he won't settle for anything less than what he already has, which is complete creative control over his and his friends characters and storylines. The booking committee was also recently restructured, with Hogan and Jimmy Hart added so he has a say in everything in the company already. Hogan is obviously still a draw but he's not as big a draw as they hoped and now that the dream match storyline with Flair is done, the real test of how well Hogan can draw begins. Dave wonders if he's worth the money. They've built so much of the company around him and they're paying him truckloads of money, but he rarely works house shows and many of WCW's core fans resent him (as evidenced by him regularly getting booed). On the same hand, if WCW lets Hogan go, the company likely deflates like a balloon without him. Sting is the only other possible candidate and he's repeatedly proven to not be a significant draw, yet he's the best they've got. WCW doesn't have a star that can carry the company without Hogan but it might end up hurting them more to try to keep him.
  • The AAA When Worlds Collide PPV next week is by far the most important Lucha Libre event ever in the U.S. and the success or failure of it will likely determine whether AAA can truly cross the border and become a legitimate promotion in America. Dave gives a long history of Lucha Libre's successes in America, dating back to the 60s and 70s with guys like El Santo, Mil Mascaras, Gory Guerrero and others and how it died off in the 80s and wasn't revived until AAA shocked the wrestling world in 1992 when they sold out several huge shows in California. Including selling out the same Los Angeles Sports Arena that WWF failed to sell out for 2 different Wrestlemanias. But crowds have fallen since then every time after. Now, WCW has financed this upcoming PPV, with English and Spanish commentary to try and cross it over to American audiences, but in typical WCW fashion, they totally dropped the ball by not promoting it at all. Dave spends over a page describing how WCW has screwed this up to the point of nearly sabotage and thinks it will likely flop on PPV because both sides failed to promote it properly.
  • From here, Dave spends several pages explaining the differences in Mexican wrestling and then gives the background and storylines behind each match at the PPV. Dave seems to really want this PPV to succeed while resigning himself to the fact that it probably won't. He calls Rey Mistero Jr. the heart and soul of AAA and says he's the most incredible and creative high flyer in the world aside from maybe Great Sasuke. He notes that La Parka "wears a Skeletor costume" so it might be hard to take him as a serious worker at first glance, but don't make that mistake, he's awesome. Love Machine and Eddie Guerrero "are probably the best tag team in the world right now."
  • New details on Missy Hyatt's lawsuit against WCW. During her employment, Missy alleges she was the victim of sexual harassment, discrimination, or retaliation by a number of people. The names included are Ric Flair, Jim Ross, Eric Bischoff, Mike Graham, Greg Gagne, Ole Anderson, Gene Okerlund and several backstage and office employees and range from people grabbing her breasts, continually asking her out for dates or sexual favors, making unwanted sexual advances, and threatening or intimidating her for reporting harassment. She also claims a full color photo of her, with her breast exposed when it popped out at Starrcade 93 was printed out and displayed around the office. Hyatt says she complained to Eric Bischoff, who did nothing, so she went above his head to Bob Dhue to report it. When Bischoff learned she went to Dhue, he fired her and Bob Dhue upheld her termination. She also alleges wage discrimination, saying she was paid less than men who did the same jobs and that WCW hasn't paid her for merchandising income. And finally, she claims that after breaking up with Eric Bischoff's friend Jason Hervey, he sent Missy's belongings to Bischoff. However, Bischoff refused to return the items to her until she signed over to Hervey the titles to 3 expensive cars she had in her name.
  • UWA and AAA have restarted their working relationship, at least for now, which led to a couple of AAA stars working a UWA show last week and another joint show scheduled next week. Might be a little too late for UWA though.
  • NJPW came close to getting a TV deal here in the U.S. but it fell through. They were negotiating with TNT to air a weekly show because TNT wants to break into the Asian market. However, TV-Asahi in Japan, which owns 50% of NJPW, is also trying to expand into Asia and they saw TNT as competition for that, so they refused to sign off on the deal.
  • Atsushi Onita held a major party to celebrate passing the 1,000 stitches mark on his body. He's trying to get into the Guinness World Records book for person who has had the most stitches. Everyone needs to have a goal, I guess.
  • Terry Funk recently cut ties with Onita's FMW and is planning to work for IWA, which is a smaller but similar deathmatch promotion in Japan. Funk challenged Onita to a winner-take-all $1 million dollar match. Onita responded saying that he has no animosity towards Funk for jumping ship and that he'd love to come over to Funk's house and eat a steak with him. Funk responded by making the challenge again and saying Onita lied to him because he promised Funk a rematch after Funk put him over in 1993 but never gave him one. Funk then said if Onita came over for steak, he'd make sure he poisoned the steak.
  • Vince McMahon filmed another promo as a heel for USWA this week, but it was mostly just to hype a benefit softball game that Lawler is involved in. Vince strongly hinted that he would be in Memphis for the game, but never outright said it. Although Vince was great as a heel in promos he filmed last year, Dave says he was really over-acting in this one (can't find this one).
  • Dave has finally seen enough SMW footage to declare that The Gangstas gimmick isn't working. Most times when a company tries to cross a line and be controversial, it usually turns off more fans than it turns on and that seems to be the case here. The crowds have dwindled and the Gangstas matches are mostly greeted with silence from the fans. New Jack cuts good promos, but nothing that sells tickets and in the ring, the team is awful, with Mustafa in particular not even being ready to work opening matches, much less main events.
  • WCW settled the "When Worlds Collide" PPV name issue with ECW and as a result of the settlement, a couple of WCW wrestlers will work on an upcoming ECW show. No word on who it will be yet, although ECW has been desperately trying to get a Brian Pillman vs. Sabu match, but WCW has repeatedly refused to let them use Pillman. After this agreement is done, WCW has made it clear that they will no longer have any relationship with ECW.
  • In a recent issue of Sports Illustrated, they listed "Muhammad Ali handing Hulk Hogan the belt at Halloween Havoc" as that week's Sign of the Apocalypse (a weekly feature in the magazine). In the same issue, someone wrote in to the letters section about SI's recent article about the 40 most annoying people in sports and wrote, "No list would be complete without including all pro wrestlers who dare to call their chosen profession a sport."
  • Jim Crockett ran his first NWA show at the Dallas Sportatorium, with mixed results. Some people said it was better than the GWF shows ("what praise, huh?") but others said it was worse. It's expected that former GWF star Moadib (Ahmed Johnson) is going to be pushed as the promotion's top star.
  • Cactus Jack and Sabu had a crazy match at a casino in Las Vegas, including a spot where they did a piledriver on a blackjack table in the casino in the middle of an ongoing game (this appears to be the match and at about the 8:50 mark, you see them heading into the casino, but then the video cuts back to the ring, so whatever happened on the floor of the casino apparently wasn't filmed).
WATCH: Cactus Jack vs. Sabu - Las Vegas, 1994
  • Indie wrestling promoter Cliff Bartz was arrested by the FBI in Florida this week where he was living under a fake name. Bartz had a reputation as a snake indie promoter and was on the run from charges that he masterminded armed robberies and intimidated witnesses.
  • Movie director Steven Spielberg is refusing to allow his new movie Schindler's List to air on PPV because he says he doesn't want it to be associated with things like pro wrestling.
  • Vader was scheduled to face Hogan at Starrcade, but Hogan nixed the idea. Vader then filmed promos teasing challenging Hogan down the road at some later date, but somehow, those interviews got scrubbed from TV also and never aired.
  • Speaking of Hogan politics, after Steve Austin lost the U.S. title to Jim Duggan in 28 seconds, Austin was reportedly promised that he would get the belt back at Halloween Havoc. But Hogan overruled the booking committee, so his friend Jim Duggan is still champion.
  • On TV this weekend, Eric Bischoff was doing commentary and claimed the last PPV proves WCW is the #1 company. He then told fans to "check out the competition and when you're done laughing at the clowns, come back, we'll still be here." Dave mentions the rocks and glass houses saying.
  • Brian Blair and Warlord, two more of Hogan's friends, may be headed in to WCW soon.
  • Dave is hearing that Bob Backlund will be winning the title from Bret Hart at Survivor Series, "for better or worse," he says.
  • Bull Nakano is expected to win the WWF women's title from Alundra Blayze at the All Japan Women's Tokyo Dome show later this month.
  • Dave gives 4.5 stars to a Diesel/Shawn Michaels vs. 1-2-3 Kid/Razor Ramon match that aired on Action Zone and says it's the best WWF TV match in more than a year (yeah I think this match is kind of famous for being the first time the Kliq all got to work together on TV and they tore the house down on a throwaway Saturday morning show).

Schmoedown Reddit League 13/08

Welcome back to the only movie trivia quiz ran on this subreddit hosted by a guy with way to much spare time on his hands! Big changes are afoot as for the first time since the reddit league started u/SarmarBinlar has been knocked off the top of the overall table! The new top dog is u/Tmitche23 after scoring 8 taking him to 63 out of a possible 80 and u/Maverick1905 taking second with 61. Sarmerbinlar falls to third with u/thedroflegend only 1 point behind knocking him out of the podium positions.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/13jdBEgcoQxOAOi-EWnTKo9cFxKtNgaLgsG6hjMH-ubk/edit?usp=sharing
Also in firsts, this is the first time that nobody in the top 3 scores the highest weekly score with u/MrPipboy3000 continuing his impressive streak hitting 9 out of 10. Maverick, Tmitche, thedroflegend and u/MichaelCambeII sharing silver with 8 and u/Maulbert getting 7 puts him in third. Moving into the 2nd week there is still a lot to play for in the monthly league, one poor week can cost you dearly or one storming week can give you a massive boost.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZkPBVqSI4a0PLuBXOGTpgOiMuSHm6rPQyXksEBz83dM/edit?usp=sharing
I've had to remove a few people from the overall league as they fail to play 3 weeks in a row, however if anyone who has played previously wishes to return they can absolutely and any previous score will be back in play. But for those of you that play regularly thank you! I enjoy doing this and I'm glad others like it too! A special thank you to the few that have played constantly since the beginning u/thedroflegend, u/ryandutcher and u/gokuyasha, it's nice to know I've not pissed everyone off over a harsh question or a miscounted score!
As always please don't cheat and good luck!

Creating a movie subreddit to discuss, critique, remember, quote, and otherwise enjoy classic/cult movies of the last 25 years or so. Does one exist and if not, what’s the best way to create this subreddit?

I’d like to create a subreddit/community of people who would like to discuss 3 or more classic/cult movies of the past 25 years or so.
Working for 20 years or so in kitchens and restaurants I’ve noticed there’s a good deal of people who absolutely love quoting cult movies, discussing behind-the-scenes information and otherwise just appreciating the movies of my youth and early adulthood.
My plan would be for moderators to jump on every day or every other day and drop the name of a classic/cult movie. For instance, as a moderator I’d start with a movie title headline:
Tombstone (1993) [Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Sam Elliott, Michael Biehn]
The film is based on events in Tombstone, Arizona, including the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and the Earp Vendetta Ride, during the 1880s. It depicts a number of Western outlaws and lawmen, such as Wyatt Earp, William Brocius, Johnny Ringo, and Doc Holliday.
Tombstone was released by Hollywood Pictures in theatrical wide release in the United States on December 25, 1993, grossing $56.5 million in domestic ticket sales. The film was a financial success, and for the Western genre, it ranks number 16 in the list of highest-grossing films since 1979.[6] Critical reception was generally positive.
This could then spawn a great conversation ranging from great quotes from the movie,
“Maybe Poker’s just not your game, Ike. I know – let’s have a spelling contest!” - Doc Holliday
Anyone subscribed to this subreddit could then riff off one another with quotes before or after this. This movie has amazing dialogue between the characters and it seems like people love quoting great movies with great dialogue.
Others could chime in with some trivia,
In an interview with True West Magazine in October 2006, Kurt Russell admits that after original Director Kevin Jarre was fired, he directed a majority of the picture. According to Russell, George P. Cosmatos served merely to make things run smoothly. Also, in the True West interview, Kurt Russell states that the film was nearly cast with Richard Gere as Wyatt Earp, and Willem Dafoe as Doc Holliday.
And still others could reminisce about what the movie meant to them when it was a movie in regular rotation for someone personally,
For me, when I was about 14 or 15 (1994-1995) is when I started watching this movie over and over. It was that age where my friends and I first discovered alcohol and weed, and we’d just drink horribly cheap beer (Natural Lite, Old English Malt Liquor and horrible “bammer” brick weed full of seeds. We would sit in our respective parents basements or wherever and make up drinking games to play along to this movie. Drink whenever someone pulls a gun. Smoke whenever Doc Holliday is on screen.
To my knowledge there aren’t any subreddits like this. Most of the movies being discussed on movies are current movies. I’d like to create a subreddit community entirely based on discussing the cult classics of the 80’s until recently. Here’s a sample list of some movies I had in mind:
Fargo Boogie Nights Goodfellas Pulp Fiction The Martian Lord Of The Rings The Borne Identify The Godfather Scarface Traffic Trumbo The Wolf Of Wall Street Rogue One The English Patient LA Confidential Heat Clerks Boondock Saints The Lost Boys The Imitation Game Dunkirk Sin City Seven Weird Science Hard To Kill Wonderland Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Under Siege The Empire Strikes Back Alien: Covenant Django Unchained Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy The Good Shepherd So I Married An Axe Murderer The Constant Gardener Kill Bill Mystic River The Hurt Locker Jackie Brown No Country For Old Men There Will Be Blood The Royal Tenenbaums Revolutionary Road Gran Torino Point Break Die Hard Summer School Zodiac The Outlaw Josey Wales Spies Like Us The Exorcist Inglorious Basterds Titanic Event Horizon Spotlight Conspiracy Schindlers List Waiting Step Brothers Vanilla Sky Coming To America The Silence Of The Lambs Full Metal Jacket Zodiac Step Brothers Dumb & Dumber The Reader National Lampoons Vacation Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Blood Diamond Jennifer’s Body Shaun Of The Dead Heartbreak Ridge Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Fight Club Apocalypse Now Prometheus The Death Of Stalin They Live The Running Man Trading Places Night Off The Living Dead Ocean’s 11 Contact Avatar Alexander Charlie Wilson’s War Thirteen Days Predator JFK Animal House Inside Man Jarhead Very Bad Things Argo Band of Brothers W. Stripes Meet Joe Black Smokin Aces Wonderland Hard To Kill Reservoir Dogs The Right Stuff Raiders of the Lost Ark The Departed The Prestige American Beauty The Matrix The Empire Strikes Back Waterworld Aliens Reign of Fire The Fugitive Enemy At The Gates American Psycho Die Hard Casino Dawn Of The Dead The Deer Hunter Return Of The Jedi Bad Santa Birdman The Deer Hunter Crash New Jersey Drive Grand Budapest Hotel Rushmore A Hard Day’s Night All The President’s Men Filth Sniper Trainspotting From Hell In Time Alpha Dog The Salton Sea Holy Rollers Boiler Room Spun The Terminator Basketball Diaries Master & Commander Legends of the Fall Leaving Las Vegas From Hell The Ninth Gate Lords of Dogtown Hustle & Flow Nowhere Boy The Football Factory The Rules of Attraction Baseketball Death to Smoochie Smokin Aces This is England RocknRolla Lord of War Hi Fidelity Idiocracy Basic Instinct Red Dragon American History X Burn After Reading The Aviator War Games Contact Bladerunner Pitch Black Superbad Dinner for Schmucks The Hangover Limitless Dumb & Dumber Grandma’s Boy The Other Guys Get Him to the Greek Blow The Wizard Of Lies The Last Boyscout Cabin Boy Analyze This
I could obviously go on and on and on but you get the idea. Also, the awesome part is that once each thread has been started it stays up for all time for people to add to whatever tangents appear over time. I would imagine with a core group of just a hundred or so redditors this could become an active and fun subreddit to contribute to.
Anyway, I’ve never started a subreddit so I have no idea how to go about creating one, how to moderate one, how to get the subreddit out into the World to attract people to contribute or anything really outside of posting shit talk from my phone on Reddit. I imagine it’s probably best that I get this started from my laptop and not my tablet or phone.
Any advice, tips, ideas, or anyone wishing to contribute, moderate or be involved in anyway please let me know. I appreciate any and all feedback and I hope to get this going sometime soon. I know I’m not the only 38 year old who has spent a significant part of his life watching and rewatching movies over and over. Now I just need to find the other movie buffs spread across Reddit and hopefully get this subreddit going.
I was toying with the name cultandclassicmovies but would love and appreciate any feedback. Thanks Reddit Community!

After banning 'Star Wars' slot machines, Disney spends millions to change Florida gambling law to "protect" its theme parks and properties - including Galaxy's Edge

Today, I heard about recent efforts by Disney against the gambling industry. I thought you guys would be interested in hearing about it, as it also heavily involves Star Wars...and particularly, Disney's plans in 2019 for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, and the Star Wars hotel, at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
It also involves Disney's existing, popular offering "Star Wars Day at Sea", and other Star Wars-related plans for its cruises in 2019, which is parly based out of the Port of Miami in Miami, Florida, and Port Canaveral (Orlando, Florida).
The tl;dnr of it is as such: (broken down into smaller sections)
The Walt Disney Company is one of the most successful media conglomerate companies in the world. Just about everyone has heard of the Disney theme parks stationed in Florida, California, and abroad. Just about everyone has seen classic Disney films like Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. Not everyone knows about Disney's relationship with the gambling industry, however, and it is a noteworthy one.
Over the years, Disney has acquired the rights to several major entertainment companies and their licensed characters. In 2009, Disney bought the Marvel Entertainment company, creator of the famed Marvel comic books and a slew of popular superhero characters. In 2012, it purchased all rights to LucasFilm, the parent company that created the Star Wars brand.
Disney announced its plans to phase out all Star Wars and Marvel-themed casino slot machines in the United States last fall. The multimillion dollar company has the power to do this, because it now owns all rights to these brands.
According to a Disney spokeswoman, the character-themed slot phase-out is not a new decision. As part of Marvel's “integration” with Disney, she said the decision was made several years ago to let the machines gradually fade out through attrition. Only a few Marvel license agreements remain at this point, and they are set to expire within the next several years. Star Wars-themed slots will also trickle away, but it will take a few more years for that process to complete.
[...] Disney wields a certain amount of power over casinos, both on land and online, because of these acquisitions. Instead of promoting Star Wars and Marvel characters via slot machines, the company prefers to use their likenesses in movies that serve to perpetuate the Disney brand.
As the owner of LucasFilm, Disney has another trilogy of Star Wars films currently in the works. [...] Fans can expect to see Disney continue to advance their brands through avenues other than the gaming industry.
Disney has made its opinion of the gambling industry known in Florida: It does not support the addition of more resort casinos to that area. Not only does Disney plan to phase out Marvel and Star Wars-themed slot machines, it also hopes to prevent the development of new casino resorts in the state.
As it stands today, Orlando's Walt Disney World is the top tourist attraction on the globe. Over 50 million people visit the entertainment resort every year and partake of theme parks like Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios. From a business standpoint, it makes sense that Disney would not want another tourist draw infringing on its potential customer base in the Orlando area.
Disney denies that self-interest is its main motivation for opposing new casinos. Andrea Finger, a spokeswoman for the company, said the corporation opposes casino expansion for “many reasons.” One of the primary reasons is the fact that Florida is a “family friendly” vacation spot; adding more casinos to the landscape would tarnish that. Finger lauded Florida's efforts in “research, innovation, and entrepreneurship” and indicated that adding more casino resorts would create an “inconsistent” atmosphere in the state.
Finger made no statement suggesting that Disney is protecting its own interests by objecting to more casinos. This inference has been made, however, by critics based on the connection between Disney and its Marvel and Star Wars slot machines that recently came to light.
Critics also cite the fact that increased Florida casinos might steal valuable convention contracts from the Mickey Mouse company. At this point, Disney hosts approximately 700,000 square feet of convention space in its Florida resorts.
Disney's ownership of Marvel and LucasFilm slot machines was brought to the public's attention by New York Times reporters Lizette Alvarez and Michael Snyder. Critics immediately began shouting hypocrisy at the fact that Disney, a vocal gambling opponent, owns and profits from character-themed casino slot machines.
The Times reporters asked Disney whether its ownership of the slots “undercut” its casino gambling stance. A spokeswoman responded that the company's affiliation with the casinos was only temporary, and that it would take a few years for current slot machine contracts to expire.
[...] When Marvel and Star Wars-themed slots do eventually disappear from casinos, their absence will be a blow to the gaming industry. Casino patrons are drawn to the colorful games touting Spider Man, Darth Vader, and other exciting Hollywood characters. Until the machines are completely phased out, the characters will continue to entertain casino patrons both online and on land.
The online gaming industry will definitely be affected by Disney's prohibition. The Spider Man Slot game, for example, is an enticing game for online gamblers that was introduced in 2012. Other Marvel-themed online slots include Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, the Fantastic Four, Captain America, Thor, and Wolverine Slots. The eventual loss of these games will leave a gaping hole in customers' palette of gaming choices.
[Possibly in response to Disney's decision], a group called the Associated Industries of Florida launched a new pro-casino campaign. This group is lobbying for more casinos in the area as a means of promoting jobs and stimulating the local economy. Analysts expect the battle between Disney and pro-casino lobbyists to become more heated as politicians compete for voter support in the upcoming election. (Source)
[However, Orlando isn't the only city that Disney is engaging in anti-casino efforts with.] The biggest challenger standing between [the city of] Miami and casinos is a mouse.
Walt Disney World, the giant resort near Orlando whose four theme parks draw more than 45 million visitors a year, has made preventing "destination" casinos a top priority. And few, if any, businesses carry as much weight in Florida as Disney, which employs more than 60,000 workers, generates nearly $600 million a year in tax revenue — and doled out more than $2 million to political candidates and causes during the past election cycle.
Some analysts say Disney — and, by extension, Orlando's entire tourism industry — has good reason to be wary of casinos. Though adult-oriented resorts in South Florida are unlikely to appeal to Disney's core audience of families with young children, they could siphon away travelers in narrower segments that are also important to the resort, from South Americans to conventions to weddings.
"Disney has lots of little pockets or niches that they're really good at getting market share in. And it adds up," said Duncan Dickson, a professor at the University of Central Florida's Rosen College of Hospitality Management. "Disney doesn't want another Las Vegas anywhere close to them. Who needs the competition?"
[Case in point, Disney also has Disney Cruise Lines, based in both Miami and Port Canaveral (Orlando).] Disney Cruise Line has revealed it will extend its popular "Star Wars Day at Sea" program through 2019, with the addition of nine cruises -- each of which will include a Star Wars-themed sea day, complete with special programming and restaurant menus. Family-friendly activities include Star Wars character meet-and-greets, movie nights (featuring new releases), Star Wars trivia, and a Jedi training show, where kids can learn lightsaber skills and battle Darth Vader.
Throughout the day, restaurants and bars also will serve themed foods and cocktails. The sea day will end with a fireworks show and deck party, hosted by Star Wars heroes and villains. All cruises span seven nights and depart from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida. (Source)
[...] Disney has always opposed efforts to expand gambling, [citing it as being againts its "family-friendly" image].
The Walt Disney Co., one of the most brand-protective companies on the planet, does not want to jeopardize its kid-friendly reputation by any association whatsoever with casinos and the taboo images they often conjure. The company's cruise line is the only major operator to sail ships without onboard casinos, which are typically one of the biggest generators of on-board spending.
"We've studied this issue carefully and remain opposed for many reasons," said Disney spokesman Mike Griffin, "including the fact that it is inconsistent with Florida's brand as a family-friendly destination, and with the efforts we've long supported to diversify Florida's economy through research, innovation, and entrepreneurship."
The legislation to be considered in Tallahassee would authorize three "destination" casinos in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Each would boast a luxury hotel, shops, restaurants, convention space and casinos with every major game, from blackjack to roulette and craps. Any company awarded a casino license would have to spend at least $2 billion building the facility.
Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts, both based in Las Vegas, and Genting, a Malaysian-based resort developer, are among the companies expected to seek licenses. Genting has already spent more than $300 million to buy bay-front property in downtown Miami and has announced plans for a $3.8 billion resort.
All have promised they will create thousands of jobs in South Florida, making the deal attractive to lawmakers hoping to lower the state's 10.6 percent unemployment rate.
Analysts say anyone that invests that much capital to build a resort also will have to spend lavishly to market the property. At a minimum, that will force Disney to ramp up its own spending on advertising, eroding its profit margins.
"Anytime you've got to fight and compete with more marketing dollars, which you know these folks have in abundance, it makes Disney's job that much harder to battle against," said Vicki Johnson, a tourism-marketing expert in Orlando.
More specifically, casinos could prove attractive draws in key markets for Disney. Executives at Genting, for instance, have said they would market heavily in Latin America.
Latin America — particularly Brazil, its biggest country — has become one of Disney World's most valuable markets in recent years. This summer, even as overall attendance at the resort was about flat with a year ago, Disney officials said traffic from Brazil was up by a double-digit percentage.
Though Disney doesn't disclose exact attendance numbers, national data show that visitation from Brazil is up 27% to more than 833,000 so far this year. And though Miami is the most popular destination for South American travelers, Orlando is growing more rapidly.
Disney says its business from Brazil is predominantly family-leisure travel, the group least likely to be swayed by casinos. But some industry followers say lavish resorts, when combined with the boutique shopping already in Miami, might be enough to peel away some of that business, especially Brazilians with older children or none at all.
"All of a sudden, it really cuts into their [Disney's] South American markets," Johnson said.
Group meetings and conventions business is also a growing profit center for Disney, which has nearly 470,000 square feet of meeting space spread among its hotels. It also routinely picks up lucrative private parties and other business tied to shows using Orange County's massive, publicly owned convention center.
Finally, allowing casinos in South Florida could lead to pressure to build more in other parts of the state. Already, some hoteliers in Orlando — led by Harris Rosen, owner of three major convention hotels — have made rumblings about bringing casinos to Central Florida. And officials at Port Canaveral — Disney Cruise Line's home port — are interested in casinos, too.
"Once they get their foot in the door, what's next? Orange County is going to say, 'Well, if it's legal in Dade County, why isn't it legal here?' " said Dickson, the UCF professor.
Disney has worked to enlist broader business groups to fight the casino legislation, most notably the Florida Chamber of Commerce, even though more than half of the businesses represented on the chamber's board of directors say they are neutral on the issue.
And the opposition from Disney has put casino boosters on the defensive during the past few days.
"Florida's identity cannot be changed because one casino or two destination resorts open in Miami-Dade County," said state Rep. Erik Fresen, R-Miami, who is sponsoring the casino legislation in the Florida House of Representatives.
"Florida will always be the Sunshine State," he added. "The dominant trademark of Florida will always be Disney World. I don't think they have anything to worry about when it comes to that." (Source)
There have been multiple attempts to garner support in the state legislature for non-Native American casinos and other forms of gambling expansion in the state. Currently, the Seminoles control the ability of Florida to expand full-fledged casinos per their current compact. And the power of the Seminoles in the state is substantial.
In order to change current law, there must be a constitutional amendment backed by the voters of Florida. There is one such opportunity on the ballot for the November 6, 2018 election.
The Casino Gambling Initiative, if approved, would give voters the exclusive right to authorize casinos going forward, casinos being comprised of card games, slot machines, and other casino-style games. All ballot measures in the future would then require a citizen-initiated process by which a number of signatures of registered voters must be obtained for ballot consideration.
Currently, however, the Seminoles reserve the exclusive right to offer blackjack, craps, and roulette in Florida, which would present a problem that would have to be addressed. The agreement with the Seminoles was signed by Governor Rick Scott in 2015, and is effective for 20 years.
While this may end up in a legal fight, poker rooms are not an exclusive right of the tribe, and would not be an issue.
If Amendment 3 passes in November by 60% or more of the popular vote, a new day may begin for casinos in Florida. This will also drastically increase the opportunity for poker rooms throughout the state. (Source)
The US Supreme Court repealed the longstanding federal sports betting ban known as PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act). The landmark decision allows states to dictate their own sports wagering laws.
That means sports betting could be coming to Florida casinos, should the legislature pass market regulations. But Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam said this week that if he’s elected, he would oppose such legislation.
[Putnam also echoes Disney's reasoning.]
“I’ve always been one who has said we don’t need to expand the footprint of gambling in Florida,” Putnam declared at a campaign stop. “It’s not who we are as a state. We’re a family-friendly vacation destination. We’re a small business-oriented state.”
“If I lived in the middle of the desert in Nevada, [like Las Vegas], maybe I would grasp onto whatever straw or life raft somebody threw me,” he continued. “But we live in Florida, and we’ve got unlimited opportunities, and we don’t need to sell our state short.” (Source)
Earlier this year, Disney also gave $400,000 to Florida Grown, a committee supporting Putnam's gubernatorial bid.
[...] Disney officials would not agree to an interview, but in a statement, Jacquee Wahler, vice president of Walt Disney World Resorts, wrote, “We support candidates who understand issues important to our company, and demonstrate strong support for business and tourism in Florida.” (Source)
[Meanwhile, Disney is busy constructing what it hopes will be its next big moneymaker: Galaxy's Edge, a Star Wars-themed land in Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Orlando. Disney also plans to construct a Star Wars-themed hotel and resort adjacent to Galaxy's Edge.]
The ongoing success of high-profile films, like the Marvel and Star Wars franchises, can play a big role in the theme parks ability to tap into new characters and storylines for rides and shows.
Experts have said the success in theme park rides today are built on characters and properties that resonate with visitors outside the park. Thus new lands themed after popular franchises have proven to be a boon — like Disney's Star Wars and Frozen attractions, and Universal Orlando Resort's success with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
[So far this year], the theme parks division for the quarter saw a 13% increase in revenue to $4.87 billion, up from $4.29 billion for the same time last year. The division also saw a 13% increase in revenue for the first six months of the year to $10.03 billion, up from $8.85 billion for the year-ago period.
According to the earnings report:
"Results included a benefit from a shift in the timing of the Easter holiday relative to our fiscal periods. The current quarter included one week of the Easter holiday, whereas the entire Easter holiday fell in the third quarter of the prior year. Higher operating income at our domestic parks and resorts was primarily due to increased guest spending, attendance growth at Walt Disney World Resort and higher sponsorship revenue, partially offset by increased costs.
Guest spending growth was due to increases in average ticket prices, average daily hotel room rates and food, beverage and merchandise spending. The increase in costs was primarily due to labor and other cost inflation, an increase in depreciation associated with new attractions and higher technology spending." (Source)
[Driving this growth are Disney's planned new additions, including Galaxy's Edge, which is currently under construction ("labor costs").]
Disney’s new Star Wars land won’t open until next year, but it is not too early to declare that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be the most ambitious theme park land ever built.
The numbers alone might justify the claim. At 14 acres each, Disney’s twin Star Wars lands will be the largest the company has built at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts. Disney has not confirmed a budget for Galaxy’s Edge, but the project is believed widely within the industry to be costing at least one billion dollars. (Source)

30 [M4R] New England/anywhere - The next few weeks could determine my future.

Hello there! Yes, it's me again, Sam from the Boston area. Are you sick of me yet? I understand if you are. If I saw me post on these subs as much as I do, I'd be worried. But enough self-depreciation. You're probably wondering, what's with the cryptic title? Don't worry, I'm not dying or under any threat of harm. Just read on and I'll explain.
First, the basics about me: I'm a freelance sports journalist, I run my own sports media business and I get my bachelor's in journalism this coming Saturday. In my spare time I enjoy watching sports, video and card games, trivia nights, mini golf, bowling, Dave and Buster's, casinos, conventions, tournaments and cooking.
I'm looking for three things out of this post, the first of which I realize is not very likely and the other two hopefully more reasonable.
1) A travel partner (or partners) to Las Vegas June 13-17/18. I'm going to be in town for a huge Magic: The Gathering tournament and I'd like to go with someone who is also going to play or would like to do typical Vegas stuff as well.
2) A new group of friends. I don't have many reliable, nearby friends, so I'd like to find a group of people, preferably a mix of genders, who are into any of the same things I am and want to plan outings together - game nights, Foxwoods trips, Sox games, etc. I've gotten messages on this subject from individuals, but I'm really looking for a group who will welcome me into their circle.
3) A serious, long-lasting romantic relationship. (Please note: While I'm looking for friends of any gender, I am only interested in dating women.) I could write a memoir the length of War and Peace about my dating woes. Seriously, I've experienced that much heartbreak and frustration. I just want to find someone who is as serious about finding something serious as I am, and can be my romantic partner, activity partner and best friend. As I've said before, I'm less Netflix and chill and more Amazon Prime and commitment (although I do have both Netflix and Prime).
Now, to answer your questions about the cryptic title: I could potentially face a complete transformation of my life in the next few weeks. I'm applying for full-time jobs, both nearby and hundreds of miles away (welcome to journalism job hunting!). I have some huge freelance gigs outside of the Boston area coming up and I want to do my best to impress, because it could increase my national profile. My lease is up at the end of July and I know for a fact that I want to move, whether I end up staying local or moving for a job, for a multitude of reasons. And ideally I would like to move in with someone I'm involved with (although I realize that's hard to do within the next two and a half months). I just need to know that, whoever enters my life, in whatever capacity, they are in it for the long haul, they won't desert me and they will show me the support and, for lack of a better word and at the risk of stroking my ego, admiration I have so desperately lacked as I have worked over the past several years to improve my life and get to this point. I just want to be taken seriously. I just want to know that I matter to people. (Yes, I know I matter to my family, but beyond that? That's hard to say.)
Needless to say, I'm not afraid to express my feelings, emotions and desires. So if you've gotten through all that, and would like to chat (serious inquiries only), my inbox is open.
And here's what I look like.
Hope to hear from you soon!
P.S. - While I did say "anywhere" in the title, if you are from outside New England I ask that you be willing to meet within a reasonable amount of time. I'm actually looking to meet people, not just chat online.

30 [M4R] New England/anywhere - The next few weeks may determine my future.

I'm looking to connect with people in person, not just chat online.

29 [M4R] Acton - A longshot and two (hopefully) not so longshots

Hello :) I'm Sam, I'm 29 and I live in Acton (yes, I drive). I'm a freelance sports journalist, I run my own sports media business and I'm working on my bachelor's at Salem State (one year left!). In my spare time I enjoy watching sports, video and card games, trivia nights, mini golf, bowling, Dave and Buster's, casinos, conventions, tournaments and cooking.
As alluded to in the title, I'm hoping to get three different things out of this post, one of which I realize is unlikely and the other two, hopefully more reasonable:
The longshot - a vacation partner for June 12-19.
I'm going to Las Vegas the week of June 12th for a huge Magic: The Gathering tournament. If you want more details on it, click here. I have my flight and room booked, but I really don't want to go alone. I end up going to a lot of these events alone because I have like zero reliable friends (more on that later). If you're into MTG or gaming in general, and if you'd like to do typical Vegas things with me as well, that would be sweet.
(Hopefully) Not so longshot #1 - a new group of friends.
As I just mentioned, I don't have many, if any, true friends. I feel like I'm just an acquaintance to most people. So I would like to find a group of people, preferably a mix of genders, who are into any of the same things I am and would like to go on adventures or do get togethers with me. Trivia nights, game nights, Sox games, Foxwoods trips, you name it.
(Hopefully) Not so longshot #2 - a committed long term relationship
(Please note: I'm looking for friends of any gender, but I am only interested in dating women.)
While I'm not ready to get married this instant, and while I won't rush into a relationship with the closest thing that moves, finding someone who can be my romantic partner, activity partner and best friend is very important to me. Basically, I'm less Netflix and chill and more Amazon Prime and commitment (Although I do have both Netflix and Prime).
So if you've gotten through that wall of text and still think you would like to talk to me, send me a message and let's chat!
And here's what I look like.
Hope to hear from you soon!

The Las Vegas Resort Using Microwaves to Keep Guns Out of its Casino

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 80%. (I'm a bot)
The Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino was the first megacasino to feature the design-a bit of trivia that Mark Waltrip, Westgate Resort's chief operating officer, relays with a mixture of pride and irony.
A system like PatriotOne's could be the ideal security solution for a destination like Las Vegas, where resorts find themselves in the unenviable position of ensuring the safety of their guests, while also stoking an ambiance of freedom, excess, and-as the city so famously advertises-unaccountability.
"If they show up at their resort and they have to line up for metal detectors, or get wanded down, or walk through a gauntlet of security guards carrying rifles and pistols-that's not going make them feel comfortable. It's going to ruin their experience." From an atmospheric standpoint, an overt security presence is the opposite of excitement, impunity, and dubious deeds.
So-called choke points-areas within the resort that 100 percent of guests will traverse at some point during their visit-are of particular interest to Westgate security.
"Right now, we're looking at four or five where a Patscan unit could be very viable," says Tim Cook, the resort's head of security operations.
For now Westgate's security personnel and a team of PatriotOne engineers will test Patscan devices at the resort's employee entrance before putting them through their paces throughout the premises.

[FIGHT PREVIEWS] Timothy Bradley vs Manny Pacquiao, Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez vs Giovanni Lorenzo, Anthony Mundine vs Joshua Clottey, Frank Buglioni vs Sergey Khomitsky + more

Wednesday April 9

From Entertainment Centre, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia
TV: Main Event (Australia) Sky Arena (New Zealand)
Fight Thread: No

Anthony Mundine 46(27)-5 vs Joshua Clottey 37(22)-4

12 rounds
middleweight division
I’ve always liked Joshua Clottey. His performance against Pacquiao was such that it rewrote his history. He became known as the Ghanian Everlast punching bag. It’s not like he didn’t earn it, but it’s a bit disappointing. He was disqualified early in his career in a fight he was clearly winning for his first career loss. The next loss was against Antonio Margarito. I don’t see a planet where that Margarito would ever lose to a fighter like Clottey. Clottey has always been a shell fighter who emerges with hard counter shots. Margarito was free to rack up points all night long. His next loss came 3 years later after beating Diego Corrales and Zab Judah. His loss to Cotto was controversial and I’m gonna admit to you all that I thought Clottey won. I love Cotto, but the harder punches in that fight came from the Grandmaster. Clottey has since trekked up to middleweight and he faces Anthony Mundine. Mundine has a split decision over Geale as the best win of his career. I’m not counting his stoppage of Shane Mosley last year. Mosley has always had back problems (if you watch the first De La Hoya fight, he tells his dad in the corner about it.) I think given Mosley is a couple years from social security, it’s forgivable
All that said, I’m going to take Clottey. His experience with some of the best welterweights of this past decade should prepare him to beat 38 year old Mundine.

Sirimongkol Singwancha 76(48)-2 vs TBA

12 rounds
welterweight division
The only reason this is here is because he’s next in line to face Floyd Mayweather. Wait, just kidding. Earlier this week there was a thread asking for the most padded records in the game. I think Singwancha has thrown his hat into the mix.

Ievgen Khytrov 3(3)-0 vs Jas Phipps 4(1)-2

Mercito Gesta 26(14)-1-1 Edgar Riovalle 37(26)-17-2

8 rounds
lightweight division
What happened to you Mercito? You were contending for knockouts of the year on Friday Night Fights and you fought on the Pacquiao-Marquez IV undercard for the lightweight championship… and now you’re fighting an 8 rounder in some dirt field under Schaefer’s banner. You were seen as a potential candidate to be the next Filipino sensation given the knockouts you were scoring…
The Vazquez fight proved a couple of things. One, don’t question Gesta’s heart. The guy went out and never stopped trying to knock Vazquez out. That can be completely frustrating when fighting a master like Vazquez. Especially when you’re falling asleep. The other thing Gesta proved was that he’s a bit of a gunner. Gesta looked crude against Vazquez. He looked like a knockout was the only way he could beat a guy who had adept boxing skill. Gesta needs to improve that to make the next step in his career and at 26 there’s still time. I’m not sure who’s training him, but I’m not counting this kid out. With the right training, I think Gesta could turn into a force at lightweight. Riovalle is a tough opponent. In fact, this will be a good barometer for where Gesta is.

Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez 27(21)-0 vs Giovanni Lorenzo 33(25)-6

10 rounds
super middleweight division
All you guys out there that like to find out and watch the next wave of prospects, tune in. Seriously. Sanchez is 22 years old, he’s tall, he’s a southpaw, he’s just about everything you want to see in a Mexican prospect. He goes to the body, he’s aggressive, but the key to Sanchez is he’s also smart. He can move, he uses his jab to keep his opponents at a safe range, he throws in combination, and he’s got some pop. He’s still got some flaws, his defense is a bit frantic, but wait till you see his right hook. This could be Gilberto’s coming out party. He’s got a marketable look, too. His opponent is no Andre Ward, but let me tell you this: He’s gonna test Ramirez. This guy has been in with a ton of experienced guys. He took Sam Soliman, Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, Felix Sturm, and Sebastian Sylvester the distance. Only Danny Jacobs has stopped him and it’s not like Jacobs doesn’t hit hard. I’m excited about this match. A future fight between Chavez Jr and Gilberto Ramirez would be bananas in Mexico. All he’s gotta do is keep on winning.

Jesse Hart 12(10)-0 vs Samuel Clarkson 10(6)-2

8 rounds
super middleweight division
Jesse Hart is a Philly fighter with an amateur pedigree. I like what I’ve seen from him. He’s got power and he’s not afraid to open up. I think this is supposed to be a showcase fight for Hart. Clarkson doesn’t have the strongest chin so look for Hart to stop the kid.

Haskell Rhodes 19(9)-0 vs Alejandro Rodriguez 21(12)-13-1

8 rounds
lightweight division

Egor Mekhontsev 2(2)-0 vs Dwayne Williams 5(2)-1

6 rounds
light heavyweight division
The Olympic gold medalist from the 2012 London Games returns to action. Mekhontsev looked spectacular in his fight on the Shiming undercard in February, but his opponent also looked like a guy this picked out waiting in line at the grocery store. Top Rank has high hopes for Mekhontsev, but the light heavyweight division may not have much room for him. I hope ESPN shows this fight.

Erik Skoglund 19(10)-0 vs Danilo D’Agata 12(3)-1-1

12 rounds
EBU-EU light heavyweight title
There’s no room for you guys in the light heavyweight division. Sorry.

David Price 16(14)-2 vs Ondrej Pala 33(23)-4

8 rounds
heavyweight division
Remember when Price was seen as the heir to the Klitschko throne. That he would be the guy to finally knock out Dr Steelhammer? Then Tony Thompson came and pissed all over it… That was a good lesson in how size and power severely overrate and blind people to the real inadequacies and shortcomings of fighters. Price is on the rebuild here his faces a guy who didn’t look too bad last year against Dereck Chisora. That is until the bizarre finish/stoppage. The way I feel about Price is similar to the way I feel about watching Steve Nash play basketball. I love the guy and want to see him do great, but I know how injury prone he is. Every move he makes, every corner he turns, every jump makes me cringe at the potential of him tweaking or aggravating something. It’s nerve racking. I wouldn’t be surprised here is Price doesn’t fair too well. His last fight was over in a minute and was not long enough to show that price has learned anything since getting stopped twice by old man Thompson. This should be interesting as long as it lasts.

Andy Lee 31(22)-2 vs Frank Haroche Horta 34(13)-12-5

Who the hell is promoting Andy Lee these days and why didn’t we get Lee-Macklin over St Patricks day weekend? It’s unfair. I’ve always liked Lee. Emmanuel Steward saw something special in him and that’s enough for me to believe in him. Lee has the distinction of dropping Brian Vera in both of his fights with him, which diet heavyweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr failed to do in 2 fights with him. Lee also lost to Chavez Jr… but let’s leave the past in the past. Lee looked fantastic his last time out. He’s only 29 and I think could make a real run at the middleweight title.

Manuel Charr 25(15)-1 vs Kevin Johnson 29(14)-5-1

10 rounds

Charr was stopped by Vitali Klitschko, but other than that has been a good fighter. He’s fought mostly in Germany and I don’t know if I’m happy or not that this isn’t on TV. Kevin Johnson makes for real unwatchable, unappetizing, unappealing fights. Please look up his stinker with Dereck Chisora last year. Please, do it for me.

Roberto Ortiz 30(23)-0-1 vs Joe Emilio Perea 22(14)-4

Frank Buglioni 12(9)-0 vs Sergey Khomitsky 28(11)-10-2

10 rounds
super middleweight division
Leave it to Frank Warren to put on a card the same day as an American pay-per-view. Let’s stay on topic. I like Buglioni a lot. He doesn’t have one-punch power, but he puts his punches together nicely and takes his time. Thus far, it’s worked out nicely. Buglioni is only 24 and has a real chance to fight on the world level. Khomitsky doesn’t look like a good match-up on paper, but his record is deceiving… In his last fight against Martin Murray (you know, the guy that half the people here think beat Sergio Martinez, you crazy people) I thought Khomitsky probably won that fight. The referee gave the fight to Murray (of course) but the seed was planted. Either Murray isn’t as good as we thought and Sergio was just injured in their fight, or Murray fought the fight of his life against Sergio and now he’s done, or Khomitsky is pretty good… or styles make fights. It’s one of these things. Either way, do not get this twisted. Buglioni is still far from ready to be on the world level, but the potential is there and this is a good test to see where they should go with his development.

Tony Conquest 13(5)-1 vs Ovill McKenzie 21(10)-12

12 rounds
cruiserweight division
Hmmmmm

Bradley Skeete 15(4)-0 vs Tobia Giuseppe Loriga 27(6)-3-2

12 rounds
welterweight division
How the hell do they keep finding these guys that are even more feather-fisted than Skeete? This guy was probably the master of finding Waldo when he was younger. Maybe there’s another version of Boxrec with sortable columns. A little bit of trivia for you guys. Loriga was once knocked out by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The contracted weight? 153 pounds! Can you imagine a Chavez that skinny!? Guess how much Chavez weighed on fight night? Yep, you guessed it. 171 pounds. How does he do it? Maybe he’s controlling gravity around him. That is the only explanation.
I don’t wanna hate on Skeete because that dude has a done of balls and heart. He goes out there and fights his ass off, but I’m just not interested in seeing it. Skeete is pretty masterful at jabbing and moving laterally to keep his opponent from planting his feet and mounting offense. When he’s cornered, he steps in and clinches. First and foremost, it works. He’s not undefeated because he hits like Roman Gonzalez. But if he did hit like Roman Gonzalez, Skeete would be a terrifying fighter. In fact, I like thinking about this. Alternate universe Bradley Skeete. He’s just the same except he’s got long hair and packs 1-punch power… and he’s promoted by Ricky Hatton. But that is all fantasy. The reality is that Skeete has an unappealing style to even the hardcore fans and while he keeps on winning, it add up to a hill of beans until he either changes his style or knocks out a real contender.
PS. I was kidding about Chavez's weight. He really did weigh in at 153, I have no clue what he weighed on the night of the fight.

Hughie Fury 13(8)-0 vs Danny Hughes 12(3)-2-2

6 rounds
heavyweight division
Hughie is the more talented of the Fury’s, but they aren’t rushing anything with him. What I love about Hughie is that he’s a giant of a man who isn’t afraid to go to the body. This shouldn’t be too difficult of a fight for the big guy.

Georgie Kean 3(1)-0 vs William Warburton 11(2)-60-3

4 rounds
welterweight division
Guess how many times Warburton has been knocked out.. Click here to check your answer. I bet you were wrong. This fight will make it on the card because Gorgeous Georgie Kean is pretty popular and moves tickets.

Chris Eubank Jr 13(8)-0 vs TBA

unknown rounds
probably middleweight division
Warren is throwing everything at the wall here! Eddie Chambers is also on the undercard, but I’m not putting anything else for this card.
